motherboard upgrade.
whenever i have upgaded my motherboard before i always did a clean install of windows. one of the main reasons i did this is win would usually freak out over the new hardware. now xp is much more stable & is much better with hardware upgrades. my question is, can you swap a motherboard out without having to do a clean reinstall with xp? and not have any 'issues'.

if you're very lucky . . .
but I'd suggest you not bother trying that, and just do the re-install

actually that is what i am hoping for. some sort of prog that will allow me to transfer al my cutomisations & settings. i think there is something built into xp that allows you to transfer settings & such, just not sure how complete it is. or where it is at.

You could try dumping the new hardware on your existing WinXP setup, just be sure to give it time to recognize everything it can and provide as much of the drivers as you can. I used to do that with a harddrive I'd setup at home to take with me to somebody's house for a backup just in case his system would crap on him when doing some hardware/software diagnosing. Windows will recognize stuff right away, but it'll end up a little less stable in the long run.
Oh, and if you had to "activate" your copy, you're screwed; you'll have to re-install or face re-activation or something.... I never had to activate mine, so no worries for me! ~eyeguy616 |
