New PSU Time
I've currently got a 500w Raidmax PSU in this case that a friend gave me and i'm petrified it's gonna blow up at some point because it's a value psu, and i've heard some seriously bad things about these. The same friend that gave me it had another one before this one and that blew up on him taking his graphics card with it
![]() So i'm taking a look at some new PSUs, i've got £35 to start me off from birthday money this year (haha aunties + uncles ftw ) and i'm gonna start saving for one, preferably a decent one. So far i've found;450w Corsair VX450w Power Supply Unit < Now this one's got me interested because it has extra long cables, that could really help in my case. If it has the juice to run a single HD3850, a DVD Burner and 2 HDDs (1x sata, 1x ide) then it'll be a good buy ![]() 500w OCZ StealthXStream Power Supply Unit 530w Hiper HPU-4M530 580w Hiper HPU-4M580 650w CoolerMaster eXtreme Power Supply Unit I'm looking for fully sleeved cables so i can possibly make a better job of cable management without tearing them to shreds i don't overclock much and my specs are in my profile on the left. Modular would be nice but it's not crucial, i've gotten so used to hiding all the cables i don't use now lolCheers guys Last edited by Mousey; Jul 25, 2008 at 09:09 AM. |

By my calculations you should have plenty of power with the Corsair and its the pick of the bunch too!!
Edit: Also consider the Antec EarthWatts 430W. It's just £1 more than the Corsair.

I'd go with the Corsair. It should power your system with no problem at all.
http://www.hardwareheaven.com/reviews/...conclusion.php Or, if you can scrape together another £8.64, it's bigger brother would do the job as well, and ease your fear of not having enough to run the 3850 ![]() Buy Corsair VX 550W*CMPSU-550VXUK from CCL - Online Retailer of the Year 2007 & 2006 for laptops, desktops and computer hardware

yeah im thinking that the Corsair one is going to be your best bet.
I personally like my zalman in my rig specs but they aren't as renowned as some of the other companies listed of course

keep your distance from the steath extreme units (ocz) imo... your better off spending a bit more on a gamerxstream eddition PSU..
just a imo.. also i'd suggest keeping in the range of 500-600 watt minimum quality specs with a either a twin 12v combined rail amperage of 40+ (20amp+) if possible, or psu with quad 12v rails that all don't fall below 16amp (18amp preferable, 20amp would be top notch though)

If you want fully sleved and modular as well as good quality go with an Enermax Liberty. I can't say enough good things about mine. Worth every penny as far as I'm concerned.
