Say a HDD of yours that you have used for some time goes to the afterlife and it is still under warranty, say 2 years or even less, after purchase. Do you actualy return them for repairs/replacement?

I can't imagine myself returning a HDD that I owned for some time, to a company/strangers. I know I am being a bit paranoid here, but what if someone access the things you have in your HDD that you don't want for others to. Passwords, letters, whatever.

I do this regularly...

Wipe it to DOD/NSA specs then arrange for a replacement with the vendor or manufacturer.

imo, if it goes through the proper channels, it's RMAd.. and insured.... i wouldn't have thing to worry about reguardless of the business books/reciepts/customer backups that are on the drive.

if anyone is going to bother recoverying files off your drive... and they would obviously want your specifically..... and if they intended to do it reguardless of cost....

they are gonna get it.

Frankly it's a multi million to one shot that someone is going to take off with your drive and weed through it to see if they can find any files that would put you in a bad position.

It's likely that even if one did manage to get your drive, they'd wipe it anyways.
