hard drive jumper settings

i just got my first SATA hard drive and the jumper settings are

1. Default
2. SCC (spread spectrum)
3. PM2
4. OPT1

kinda different from master, slave and cable select....i dont know which one to use....

What drive you got there? The only jumper settings that I've seen have been on Seagate drivers for selecting the SATA mode, I or II ...

use what came with your drive from factory... (default)

if it came with a jump, leave it where it was..

if it didn't... don't put one in

the spread spectrum is to lower "interfeerance" between devices.

the only time you need to use the 150MB/s mode is if you want to use it on a board that is SATA1 only and doesn't work with a sata 2 drive properly.

so just leave it at default....but what does spread strectrum do though? I've just read the wiki on it partially, i dont get what it does for the hard drive...
