Normal temps?
How do these temps look to you?
All stock air cooling solutions. 1 12cm fan infront of the HDDs blowing air towards them. 1 12cm fan back. music player in the background, Opera open with 7-12 tabs for about 48 hours now. a few small programs in the background.

Erm...you forgot to post the temps....
Edit: Ooh you edited your thread with temps while I was posting... Edit2: I'm no hardware guru or anything but I reckon your hdd temps are just fine. Though I would check with maxtor and seagate to confirm what they say are normal operating temps. Was it the hdd temps you were asking about?

the 3 sata drives (all seagate) i have hooked up now are 40-42c. my case side is off if that matters. maybe pop it off and see if you get a drastic difference. does the 8800 exhaust in to the case by the HDDs?

What do you mean about the 8800 eclipse? How could it face towards the HDDs?
cozumel, I was asking about all of them. About the HDDs, the maxtors that are from my previous desktop PC (bought december 2005) seem to have about 5-9 C lower temperature with this newer PC (graphics card December 2006, rest Summer 2007).

Your CPU and GPU temps look fine to me, but yeah, the hard drive temps look to be about 10C high - my WD drive is running at 41c right now...

as seen the other hardware components in your computer system don't have a very high temp at all, i assume the overall system temps and room temps are not that high either, i think if all hard drives are running at 50C at most of time it's better to try to lower their temperature.
all of the hard drives i'm using are Seagate's, in a 24-26C room temperature these drives are at min/max 28-38C, an average temperature is about 33C. |

The room temperature can be from a minimum of 27 to a few degrees over 30C.
I don't know how I could possibly lower the HDDs temperature...There is already a 12cm fan blowing air at them.

i can't just assume and tell you there is something wrong with the drives's sensor temps,
however, i'd say all software programs (that you may want to use them for checking the drives's temps) are reading and reporting that drives's temps using same reading point and method. however, as far as my experience is concerned, and i've been using quite a numbers of Seagate's drives, at a room's temps in that range and for all the drives to be at 50C at all time is just quite too high, BlueMak. |

anyways, have you checked the drives's temps right after you start up the computer and boot to desktop?
the drives's temps start at some 45-50C already, or it's start from 30C something and steadily climb its way up to 50-52C? |

The room is pretty hot so I wouldn't worry. But perhaps the drives are sitting real close to each other so if there's space to have them a bit further apart then that might be an easy path for improvement. If the case has more than four harddrive bays.

generally the only issue with the temps listed... i see is the HD temps... while they are not dangerous.. the are abnormally high..
i consider danger to start @ 55-60 but they should stick around 40ish give or take a few for a typical household without AC

Here's a quote from Seagate's site:
The operating temperature range for most Seagate hard drives is 5 to 50 degrees Celsius. Note: With our newer model drives, the maximum temperature is now at 60 degrees Celsius And the drive in my MacBook Pro (a Seagate 100G) often runs at 70C - in it's third year now - no problems. But they are designed for it. Looks like you're safe though...

Your hdds do look like their cooking a bit but i wouldn't worry about it if you've already got an intake fan pointed at then. Have you tried that earlier suggestion of spacing your hdds in other bays?
Maybe try improvising with another fan? As long as they're operational and you aren't seeing any strangle faults/artifacts ect i reckon you'll be fine. |

No room for moving them further apart.
The are two problems I have with checking their temp after I load Windows. I rarely turn it off, perhaps once in a month if that, and the also rare case I reboot, I can't remember to check the temps. Well, I have no problems with them yet, but let's hope they will stay ok for a few weeks more till I sell/put in storage this PC and get a notebook.

Put in a more powerful fan. Nothing crazy like a Vantec Tornado but something with a little more balls. Even if room temp is 30C they shouldn't get that much hotter than room temperature.

Nah, I doubt it will see much use after this September again. I will probably sell it or something.
