after a bit of research, it seems that these were designed for the P45 boards and only P45 boards can actually use this much memory....... anyone want a maximus formula for a P45 board...?

Your avatar makes me giggle whenever I see it!!

In the UK, it doesn't seem that I can currently get the OCZ. But I can get these GSkill at well over-priced level (almost had a heart attack)
16GB G.Skill DDR2 PC2-6400 MQ Series(6-6-6) Dual Channel Kit (4x4GB) - £694.66 (approx $1400)
8GB G.Skill DDR2 PC2-6400 MQ Series (6-6-6) Dual Channel kit (2x4GB) - £365.66 (Approx $700)

Edit: +rep for the avatar

Edit2: According to the GSKill website it appears as though they are for any P35, X38 or X48 board

I'd love to go for 16gb, although probably more realistically, 8gb.

Need to upgrade from my DDR1 platform to do so though.

lol yea newegg has those G.Skill sticks for $1,200 approximately, horrible price......

well im not sure which motherboards support 16GB but i dont think theres many........ if X38 supports 16GB and no one knew, then thats nice but then if it dont, then i need a new mobo.....

im pretty much stuck on these sticks so i may actually get them! but i dunno.....

it's nice.... but that's about it...

@ 8gb of ram, a general user would simply not find a use for it lol

Honestly, what is the most memory you've used in that system at the same time?

Somehow I don't think it passes even 5 or 6 gigs :P

Well, with Vista 64, SuperFetch could pre-load a BOATLOAD of applications into memory

I know from experience, that you can see/feel the difference in 2, 4, and 8 GB RAM in Vista 64. I'd assume that going to 16 would also make a difference.

kris...

i haven't a clue about the x38

but i was running a P45 mobo with the ICH10R chipset with 16gb and it was flawless....

and yes with vista x64 and doubling the ram every time is noticeable... but for the most..... blow joe users.... they keep telling me "wat?"

running 16gb of ram is also neato to see it effect other things..

nothing like a total pool size of over 8gb of video ram at your disposal (according to directX)

But exceptionally large photo editing or rendering will suck it up in a hurry, typically anything over 4000x4000 starts chewing the fat i've found.

Well I hope you are refunding your customers, not sure why you are fitting 16gb of ram in "blow joe" users machines in the first place.....

I completely agree with the pre/superfetch and its a huge difference when you start upping that ram. Half the times repeats of FPS levels just autoload since its already right there and ready to go.

Cant beat it.

back when i used to work at the store, i had some customers would spend $3,000 USD on a new machine to use it just for surfing the net.

mind you, this was back in 2004/2005, so a $3,000 machine had a 6800 Ultra, 2GB of RAM, AMD FX53, 2x74GB raptors, and stuff like that.

To be honest i think 16gb would help immensely when i'm working with lotsa stuff imported into Premiere, or especially in C4D 32bit with really large textures

anything to do with rendering programs or large images and video related tasks, lot of memory is a great advantage.
