??? Aftermarket cooler for lga775 E8400

Hey everyone,

Finally back in the states, and I am looking to get some opinions on the best cooler to get for my new E8400.

I have the stock cooler on there and the temps are just not acceptable to me. Plus I really just don't like the stock cooler, it sits way to low and impacts onto the xfx chip cooler towards the top of the motherboard, which im sure is giving me additional heat.

So, any recommendations on company/model types for coolers?

Thanks!

-Syn

The intel stock cooler does absolutely suck ass, they have done since they were first brought out. The only ones that are any good are the ones that come with the new extreme editions now.
Some good ones are the Zalman CNPS9700 and (which i swear by, reduced my temps by about 30 degrees) the Artic Freezer 7 Pro

sweet ill check out that artic freezer.

the stock cooler is garbage, my system idle is around 52-53 per core, load is 74 or so. I thought something was just wrong until i did some checking and found this was pretty par for course with that piece of junk.

I'd like to know what you have access to first...for instance Xigmatek's Achilles cooler is great, but can you find that there?

That coolermaster looks really nice, and yeah I normally use newegg for all of my hardware purchasing since my very second computer build out haha.

Thanks for all the ideas, what kinda temps do you see with your ninja kris?

i find it a bit interesting that the core temp's are so different between your wolfdale and mine.
but despite all the differences in the core temp reading values, it's best to replace the stock Intel cooling with something better.

i used to overclock a wolfdale E8200 to 550 FSB with an Intel boxed cooling and its core temp didn't seem very high at all.

and this (below) core temp reading was using a TJmax of 105C, and these day people start using a lower TJmax setting like 95C on the core temp program.

if i use TJmax at 95C back when i was overclocking the wolfdale processor, then the core temp should had reported another 10C below this core temp figure...

That's the Xigmatek Achilles:

Newegg.com - XIGMATEK HDT-S1284 120mm Rifle CPU Cooler - CPU Fans & Heatsinks

It probably isn't as good as the Z600 but I'd recommend it over most other heatsinks near its price range at this point of time. But there are many other good heatsinks out there. And Newegg has them all!

the new CM V8 cooler looks pretty cool, weight 865g. i 've not seen the real one available in my area, but check it out.

- Cooler Master - Ultimate provider of Computer Chassis | Cooler | Power Supply

also, i heard from a few friends that OCZ's Vendetta 2 is also pretty good and its retail price is so cheap.

i saw its larger pic somewhere before and it was already mounted on a board, it's not even in the way of the board's first DIMM slot, which i like it. and it's only 865g i hope this total weight figure is already included the installed fan. i want one or two now, lol.

the CM Hyper Z600 is also quite a good cooler, i think.
however, as far as i can see, when using it with a fan the first or first 2 DIMM slots are in its way.

you know that is a VERY good question

EDIT:

I honestly think that these aren't quite out on the market so i guess your next question needs to be "Who must i kill to obtain one of those?"
