Dvd rom probs

hello i have a matshita DVD-ROM SR-8588 dvd drive and every disk i place into it come up in windows as corrupt or not formated even if a disk right out of packaging and also my computer will reset itself and get a double serious error message and do this 3 or 4 times this is stops i dont know how to fix so please help i will post spects if asked but its a mid to low end machine

if you can help with eather issue please reply or pm

i rebought dawn of war (for the 3rd time) and cant get the disk to read and its brand new

also my windows wont update im runnin 2005 media center (for newer people its xp with goodies) and i am willin to redo the os but i need this drive workin troubleshooter doesnt find any issues and im useing defult windows drivers

So you could have windows problems or the drive could be faulty. Do a test and boot from a bootable disc, like your windows CD, up until the part where you select a drive to install on. If it errors before that then it's the drive that's no good. Makes sense?

yea ill try that tommarow i was going ot reinstall windows anyways because of the serious error issue i might just get a new system this is built from old parts anyways only thing decent on it i belive is the invida 6800 ultra only a 3200 singel core processer and gig of ram (might be only a half gig) 120 gig ide wd hd and a 80 maxxcore ide not sure of buff speeds or cashe on them
