Would love some help or input on building a new computer

With warhammer coming out later this month with beta and going live near the end of the month I am going to build a new computer. My current computer is still pretty nice and ran WoW at pretty good FPS but I want something new to play with I'm thinking. I have a little list here about what I would want and if anyone has some opinions about what I have picked out so far I would love them. Only thing is that I am not sure I am going to jump to DDR3 yet but if there is a good combo of board and ram would love to know it.

This is a list from newegg.com, hope that is ok.

Newegg.com - Once You Know, You Newegg

I know the HDD is out of stock, will just switch it out with something close to what I had listed. Also plan on taking a 500 gig drive from my current computer. Thanks guys and sorry for all the text.

I know how some boards don't like the outside links or whatever and I can't keep which rules go to which boards haha.

But for a budget.... Trying to keep it under or around $1,500 dollars so close to what it is as listed at 1,300. Need to by a 64 bit vista as well I guess, I hear better things about XP for games and such right now but figure might as well get the directX 10 going and work out the kinks while I can.

nah theres no issues with DH and links... i do it all the time and clear your head about how XP is better than vista, its all BS from people with old systems

stick with Vista X64

and give me a few minutes and ill be back with the recommended system specs

I have vista 32 on my laptop and I like it over XP now, just my old box still has XP on it because I couldn't find any good wireless drivers and didn't want to mess with it.

Not too sure but what I can read seems like the duo core verse the quad core, the quad core only wins in very extreme multitasking.

as of 2007 all game developers sprawled to get their games to become multi-threaded if you take a look at games like supreme commander and Crysis, they are the largest examples of multi-threaded games

Crytek even says that a Quad Core is pretty much a necessity to play well......

theres also the console ports like games from 360 and PS3, those are multi-threaded and make it alot easier for developers to bring these games to the multi-threaded desktop while theyre at it....

all those Dual-Core vs Quad Core reviews are ancient history..... simple as that

basic rule of thumb, any Quad Core on the market today will beat any Dual overall...

thats why phenoms are so numerous and popular

I still like this as the board though.

Newegg.com - ASUS P5Q Deluxe LGA 775 Intel P45 Intel Motherboard - Intel Motherboards

Not sure what is better about the other one you listed. The DDR3 support is nice on it but with only 2 slots I would imagine I would just get a new board and not worry about a board that does both. Don't really care about SLI though, plan on just doing one really nice card and keep that updated and not get two cheaper ones.

i wouldnt go with asus though..... ive noticed their quality is declining... i know im going to sell my Maximus Formula once i change my Mobo...... after i RMA the damn thing anyway......

go with a higher end Gigabyte if you want a better board, they use better components.

I was looking at cases and I think I want to get a little bit of a fancy one, something that looks cool and has enough room for 2 graphic cards later down the line if I wanted. I've been looking through newegg and can't really find anything that stands out all that much, not a big deal though.

Newegg.com - COOLER MASTER Stacker 830 Evolution SC-830K-KKN3-GP Black Aluminum ATX Full Tower Computer Case - Computer Cases

why 2 cases....? oh and swap the 7200.10 for a 7200.11 its just not worth it, the speed difference between the two drives is MASSIVE

also swap the arctic silver 5 for the OCZ Freeze paste, it is the best paste out on the market

the Zalman Cooler also doesnt cool very well at all, the Tuniq tower cools better and that thing is history, go with the Cooler Master Hyper Z600 or even the Scythe Ninja SCNJ-2000 is better than that thing

after those changes, things should be good.

I made those changes and picked that Tuniq tower 120 universal cooler. Yea I probably had two cases in there while I was looking at prices and trying to figure out what I wanted. Total comes out to 1420, I'm pretty happy with that amount really. Thanks for all the help man.

Ok, here is another question after I have bought everything and it is showing up on Monday haha. Does that board you recommended, GA-EP45C-DS3R, able to overclock at all? From stuff I read the q6600 can be pushed pretty high and I don't really want to go for 3.4 or whatever is the limit on air but being able to play around a little bit would be nice. I have had a gigabyte board a few years ago but my current is an Asus.

So long post short, is there a little bit of wiggle room on the overclock side with this board?

I tried google and to search on here but every place I find a link for it just wants me to buy it haha.

*edit* I know that might be more of a question for the Overclock area but figured because it was a question about this post should stay here

Ok I lied about not asking another question. Doing some look up about power supplies and just want to know if the one I picked, OCZ GameXStream 700W, would do it for me. I know it has enough power but just for the connections. Says it has Main connector (20 + 4 pin), one 12V (P4), one 12V (8pin), two Floppy, six peripheral, six SATA, and two PCI-E connectors. I also checked the 'bundle' for the xfx GTX 280 card and looks like there is a connector that will take two 4 pin connectors into what I guess is an 8 pin connector. If I need to run out and get a new power supply would rather know now then wait until Tuseday morning Sorry I'll try to stop bumping this thread hehe

I would like the corsair one but will need to use the PC power and cooling though. Seems like the corsair has the fan on the bottom so will be blowing right at the bottom of the case against the metal and I can't figure that being good. Looked into getting a new case from the shop near me as well but don't feel like sending the one back newegg is shipping. But like you said both of them have pretty good reviews.

I'm not sure which case you are looking at now, altho your Newegg list shows a CM690. If so, then the Corsair PSU is a perfect match, as it has vent holes on the bottom.

Also that fan is an INTAKE, so it would be drawing air IN, and exhausting out of the back of the PSU.
