In this thread are a few different examples of systems built with the latest technologies at different price points. In this particular post are no-frills systems that are designed to deliver performance more than offer any particular features. The upgrade being the addition of a second GTX 570 HD to use in SLi. With the PCI-E slots limited to 8x speeds for two cards, that pretty much means that you can only use single GPU video cards before you hit bandwidth problems. Though minor at this point in time, running a dual GPU video card does take a hit of a couple frames per second in gaming if run in a half speed 8x slot. $2250 Performance Level
In a standard configuration Sandy Bridge system, the PCI-E slots are limited to x8 speeds when using dual video cards, this can be a problem when trying to use video cards with dual GPUs as the half-speed slot can limit performance in taxing situations, usually it isnt bad but as video cards get faster and faster, having full speed slots becomes more essential to good performance. A good work-around can be found in getting a high end motherboard that uses 3rd party chipsets to increase the number of available PCI-E lanes, one such board is the Gigabyte GA-P67A-UD7-B3. With a more advanced board, the system is able to run powerful multi-GPU setups like dual GTX 590s with ease. The only downside to the Gigabyte board is that it doesnt support UEFI so it cannot boot from drives larger than 2TB. Not being able to boot from a drive doesn't mean you cannot use larger drives within windows, as long as you use the recommended 64-bit OS, your computer will see any large drive just fine. Though older, there is no doubt that it is still the fastest platform to work with. With native support for full speed x16 PCI-E slots, triple-channel memory support, and up to 6 CPU cores in one socket, one can completely exceed the performance of the above posted systems. Until the LGA 2011 platform launches, this is the most powerful desktop platform available. The LGA 1366 was originally built as a server platform for people or businesses that require high end CPU processing, the issue though was that the server motherboards were never geared for tasks that the standard home user would use it for so they generally only had one full bandwidth PCI-E slot at most. Nice lists. That must have taken a bit of time. Millions of homes in the US are gonna start having (nearly) identical rigs. Btw, you need a line feed on the extreme level system for the PSU. You realise that every month people will expect you to update this list when new products are introduced or pricing levels change? You're gonna have your work cut out!

That is a big improvement. You've made it far easier, with the tweaks, to see 'at a glance' each set of component within every price level. Although I think it would still read better (on the eye for quickly scanning down the page) to have:

Well done sir! That's a LOT of work!
I think that I would recommend the Corsair 1000HX for the 2x4870 X2 systems. It would give a bit more overhead for a power-hungry system, and as we all know their quality is second to none. I would also recommend the Cooler Master CM690 case over the RC590. I have the 690 and have taken a good look at the 590, and I think the the 690 is preferable. There is nothing 'wrong' with the 590, it's an excellent case and in my opinion, in it's class, it's second only to the 690. I just feel that given the difference in how the HDDs mount, that the 690 gives you a bit more room, especially with the longer video cards. EDIT: One other thought. You recommend ATI GPU's almost exclusively. While I am a "FanATIc"*, and would never use an nVidia card, they DO make excellent cards, and you might want to give a choice of "either/or" for my mortal foes, the "nVIDIOTS"*. * used purely in jest, and not intended to cast aspersions on either side

well at this point in time, ATi cards have the much higher band for buck but theres also the possible use of PhysX on the P45 boards, the x16, x8 is perfect for them

I have to say the physx drivers added to my 8800gt in games supporting it are friggen awesome, very noticeable frame improvements for sure.
I do agree that ATI cards are getting really competitive again, which rocks, competition is excellent. I also think that nVidia is doing the right thing in pulling an intel and slashing prices, should make for some interesting times. -Syn

Just thought kris, since you added the little things like the fan clips & coolers.
Maybe putting the links in for the DH how to build a system guide, the DH how to lap your heatsink guide and, if there is one, the DH how to overclock guide (if there isn't one that could be your next sticky!) You could become the sticky mod!! (I may have got the names of the guides wrong as I didn't check but you know the ones I mean) Oh yeah, maybe below the coolers and fan section of this thread, briefly mentioning about buying cable ties for cable management>airflow>cooling. Just ideas, it might make it untidy though...
