RAID 0 Failures

This is a poll (in case you haven't noticed)

There are just so many questions being posted about RAID 0 installations. An often typical response would be "You'll lose all your data if one hdd fails and you risk permanently losing valuable files"

Well, I've had RAID 0 for a few years now and not lost any data yet. I had one Maxtor hdd fail but since I always have everything backed up externally with scheduled daily backups of the most important stuff and monthly backup of full system, I never lost a thing.

So, here we are with a poll so we can see how many DH'ers have had hdd fails and whether this has caused them to lose data.

If you own or work in a store then please do not include customer tech problems. This about your personal experiences only.

Thanks

Not RAID'ing regularly but I haven't had a harddrive fail on me since the IBM Deathstar days. That would be about a Seagate and eleven Samsungs ago.

I've been running raid before Raid was "cool" for the desktop

Orginally has 2x20gb in Raid 0 on the [H] Enthusiast - ABIT KA7-100 Abit KA7-100 with the Highpoint 360 Controller on it and "unofficial" Raid support that was one of if not the FIRST Raid intergrated solution, plus FIRST ATA100 enabled board to boot.

2x20gb in raid 0 on the board was insane at the time.

Since then i've gone through a number of raid solutions, all of them onboard solutions, the next one was 4x 30gb in raid 0 on the Abit AT7-MAX2 which housed the BEST Raid controller i've EVER used PERIOD, the Highpoint Tech 374 controller. INSANE read/write speeds... insane random access, best bursts, super low cpu usage... nothing could touch this controller for years....

I've yet to have a single HD fail on me in while in raid 0, i have however had hd's fail obviously, but i've always been able to avoid it while in raid 0. I've also kept a backup of critical files.

Raid 0 is the cats meow.....

And alot of people seem to get confused.

Raid 0 isn't really any more frightning then a single drive.

If your single drive fails, your toast, generally.

No different then running raid 0. It's basically another "single Drive".. just bigger, faster.

The only thing a raid 0 array has against is, is that for every drive that you add, you increase your "CHANCES" of having a failure happen, but that number is still giagantic in every way. I've got a machine i've built that has been running raid 0 for nearly 6 years (since xp came out).... and none of the drives have failed.
