??? OS problems

Hi, I've just got all the components for my second computer (all new)
and have installed them accordingly only to find that when i fire it up my cd drive for some reason will not read my operating system disc.
this leaves me without any idea of why it's not working.

So, hopefully someone else has had this problem because I've been tinkering with it for days to no avail.

I appreciate any help in advance.

Thanks,
Jake

Sorry, forgot to menchain that it's XP home SP2 OEM version.

Just some things to check:

  • Is the CD/DVD Drive enabled as boot option in the BIOS?
  • Is the drive plugged into SATA controller and been correctly configured in BIOS?
  • Double-check power & data cables between CD/DVD drive & mobo are securely in place
  • Try another data cable
  • Is the disk good? Try it on another machine
  • Is the drive good? Try swapping for another known good drive.

Couple of things.

When it's booting, do you see it recognizing the CD drive?

If so, and you have a 3.5" floppy drive, you can try booting with a Win98 Startup diskette. Boot choosing CD support, and you can see if the CD Drive will read CD's other than your OS CD. Also try reading the CD with a different computer.

IT's possible, sunce the CD drive is a new one, that it's defective. Getting new hardware that is DOA happens. Try putting the CD reader in a different computer to see if it's working there of not. If it won't work in 2 different systems, then it's RMA/Return time for it.

well i know it's not the drive itself seeing as i've tried 2 others in it's place

also should i set the CD drive to priority 1 from startup?
Or the HDD?

I've double checked everything disk is good all cables connected enabled, the works.

Is it possible that there is some kind of driver problem?
since the drive is new and all.

Are you saying the other two worked in it's place? If they did then your drive is doa.

And your CD should have boot priority...

No, the others didn't work either.
But i know the disk is good because I tried it on another PC and it worked flawlessly.
