Fan Recommendation Please
I want to replace the fans in my case. I had a couple of Scythe S-Flex SFF21F 1600RPM 63.7CFM spare that I wasn't using and thought I'd use them. Unfortunately there is a slight hum from these fans. They work ok as exhaust or for CPU, but when for the intake the hum resonates with the case honeycomb design. The hum is clearly audible and is annoying to say the least. Just in case anyone suggests this: I don't really want to dremel my Cosmos to stop the resonant frequency!!
I'll now use the S-FLEX that was going to be for the intake to cool my hdd area. So please, I would like a recommendation for a quiet (27-28dba) 120mm fan with similar airflow @ 12V. I am getting a couple of slow rpm 140mm Sharkoons for the top exhaust of the case and just want to sort out the bottom intakes. ![]() Thanks

My personal favourite fans I use are Nexus D12SL-12. Which are made by Yate Loon and are nearly identical to Yate Loon's D12SL-12. However I don't know if you have read Vapor's fan comparison on XS, but there are many different types of Yate Loons. And the Nexus version is a very high binned D12SL-12. AFAIK they are one of the quiestest fans you can buy.

I prefer Arctic Cooling fans personally but the 2x140mm and 4x120mm fans in the NZXT Tempest case I reviewed are dead quiet and have good airflow

If you don't really need it to spin at 1600rpm, then the Enermax UC-12EB Marathon Enlobabl 17db, a whole 11db below the Scythe S-Flex SFF21F but of course spinning slower by 600rpm, 28db pretty much is the standard for quiet 120mm fans spinning at that speed but you could try the Thermaltake Silent CAT 120mm A2329 fan that spins at 1600rpm but sounds 1db less than the Enermax UC-12EB (16db).
Recently bought 3x 80mm Enermax Marathon Enlobal fans for my rig and they work brilliantly, the only thing that hums slightly is the Antec 120mm high speed exhaust fan that came with my Antec Plus View II case, but I don't mind humming/sounds coming out of my pc unless it's unduly loud, the Asus Triton 79 cpu cooler is also extremely quiet, and glows slightly blue ever so innocently, with the Antec fan and OCZ modxstream fans lighting up you could alsmot miss this innocent glow unless you look real closely. http://www.enermaxusa.com/catalog/pr...roducts_id=101 Thermaltake Silent CAT 120mm Case Fan - White A2329 in Canada at TigerDirect.ca

Went for a Noiseblocker XL2 (re-branded Yate Loon) as the Nexus & YL out of stock.
Thanks for input guys Edit: FYI, the Thermaltake Silent CAT 120mm A2329, although quiet and with good airflow, cannot be used as an installed as an intake fan. This is due to the way Thermaltake designed the product, intending it primarily I think for CPU cooling.

Hmm, yeah didn't notice it didn't have spaces for screws on both sides, nice buy but the new Thermaltake TurboFan A2492 spins faster than the Yate Loon (1350rpm ± 10% vs. 1400rpm ± 10%) and sounds quieter (16-17db vs. 28db) but nice buy all the same.
