Sad Is this rig able to handle heavy games well?

Well ,
I have the following specifications in my rig:

Gigabyte Motherboard 945 S2C pci-e
Intel Core2due 2.20 Ghz
2x1Gb Ram DDR2
LG 17'' lcd monitor

and I am fgoing to buy a video card soon Visiontek 4850 HD OR Zotac 8800gt

So the question is "will this rig can handle heavy games such as Crysis ,Supreme commander, world in conflict,Cod ,Saints row 2, Mercenaires in a high resolution 1280*1024 at least

And so as the up coming games in the next 3 years as well.

The HD4850 would be better choice than the 8800GT. It's newer and faster

LukeK is just really niceLukeK is just really niceLukeK is just really niceLukeK is just really nice

I doubt Crysis will run well on that system unless you lower the settings from "very high".

What PSU are you using? are you running vista?

If you are using vista I don't think the system will be futureproof for 3 years with 2 gb of ram. Should be ok for a while though.

Thats one thing I hate about pc's, you spend a fortune on them today and by next year they are already mid range or worse.

The 4850 will put you in great shape for the next 2-3 years.

I don't think you will have a chance of playing the best games for the next 2-3 years unless you address a couple of areas. Definitely I would be adding some memory to the rig to take her up to 4GB. 2x2GB is best and you could sell the current sticks you have. DDR2 is dirt cheap right now. To complement the extra memory I would be getting Vista x64 with it's improved memory handling capabilities.

You mentioned getting a new PSU at the end of your last post. What brand & model do you have now? It may be enough for all we know...

We haven't really got a list of all your components, but assuming you'll have a bog-standard single card system that's not overclocked then you could consider these PSUs:

CORSAIR CMPSU-550VX $69.99 (After rebate) - Perfect for a single card
Corsair CMPSU-650TX $89.99 (After rebate. Labor day deal only))
PC Power & Cooling S61EPS 610W Continuous @ 40°C $89.99 (After rebate. Labor day deal only)
ENERMAX Liberty ELT620AWT 620W $119.99 (After rebate)

I've assumed you're in the US

That don't mean that you must have 4GB of RAM. Vista 32-bit runs fine with 2GB of RAM.

Sorry man. Don't really know the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia too well. It's quite a distance away (I'm in the UK)

There is ADVANTI Online though. They are based in Bahrain but ship to KSA. They are official suppliers of Corsair, amongst other brands. They don't sell the PSU though, but if you droppped them a line maybe they could order for you. It syas free delivery but that may only be in Bahrain. If they can't get the Corsair then this Silverstone Strider ST75 750W @ BD 75.000 is quite nice. Saw a couple of respectable reviews for it too including this one from JonnyGURU.

All of them should be fine. Even the 550W model. Just that once you start going down the overclocking route it kinda gets infectious and you may start overclocking everything else in which case you would need one of the ones over 600W to be safe over the next 2-3 years. (PSU power/efficiency drops a bit with age)

But 64-bit is better...

You could always add more RAM later (DDR2 is at rediculously low prices) or go with 4GB straight. Performance will respond to the extra.

Well with 2GB of RAM it's really aren't. With more RAM than 2GB it's good parts will come up.

Gigabyte's home page says that it should support up to 4GB. To ensure this make sure that your mobo's BIOS is updated to it's newest version.

It won't change the max supported RAM, but it always better I think to have the latest BIOS (not beta)

Memory specs from Gigabyte:
Quote:
  1. 2 x 1.8V DDR2 DIMM sockets supporting up to 4 GB of system memory
  2. Dual channel memory architecture
  3. Support for DDR2 667/533/400 MHz memory modules

I just remembered. Here is a list of companies that should deliver to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

I just quickly checked out with 2 of then and they both deliver KSA (for just over $60). If you get more than one item it works out cheaper.

well another head-scratching thing

The ite says it suppoprts extreme cpu (is that means that it supports core 2 quad/ and extreme quad)

mm ( my motherboard box says it supports c2d and does't say anything about multiple cores)

That means that they tested it later and it worked or the either my box or the site is lieing

The only quad it supports is the Q8200 and only by overclocking. It couldn't be done on stock FSB unless you underclocked the chip to use all 4 cores. (F5 BIOS)

X6800 is the only Extreme C2D supported and that would not require overclocking. (F3 BIOS)
