Modem woes
Well, since my switch to XP x64, I've been unable to use Dial Up when my Satellite is restricted (such as now). It's been quite a hassle, and I finally decided to try and find a good 64 bit compatible modem. I chose the Rosewill RNX-56AG, which is an Agere Systems PCI-SV92PP Soft Modem. Now that I have it, however, there doesn't seem to be any NetWaiting/Modem-On-Hold software for it. I've tried installing the NetWaiting software I had for my old Creative Modem, but it wouldn't start. I tried installing the Lucent MoH software (found it here), but it did nothing during a test run.
Am I totally screwed here? Is there software that will work for this modem? Is there a different 64-bit compatible modem that comes with or is compatible with known software? |

It seems the ONLY place you can get a full feature driver is from modemsite's premium download, unless you can find which one they are leeching. You requre a V92 capable driver (Windows update may dump a V92 disabled one on you), as well as the MOH app. The situation is a disgraceful mess, making V92 someting of a non-event.

The driver I'm using came with the card, which says it's a v.92. I installed a demo copy of PhoneTray Dialup 2.30, and it says my modem is v.92 capable, though when I connect to a v.92 server, it says it's v.90. This may just be my phone line, though.
I came across that site, and I'm sort of tempted to waste the buck-fifty just to see if it actually works. |

You might want to look into a US Robotics modem. Before I had DSL I swore by their modems, they weren't the softmodems you'd find in most systems, they had actual hardware on them. They might be a tad pricey though, but if they haven't taken a total nosedive you're probably likely to get better drivers/software with it.
