Anybody have any experience with a NMT based media player? Popcorn Hour/HDX 1000

recently i was made aware of these types of devices and the software they run.

What is the Networked Media Tank (NMT) ? - WIKI

The NMT is a product developed by Syabas Technology that combines Digital Media Adaptor (DMA), NAS, Media Server and Torrent downloader in a single lower cost device. Some versions will include DVD and BluRay playback capability.

How many NMT players are out there in the market right now?

As of September 17, 2008, there are six companies providing NMT players based on the Syabas design.

Of these devices, I am most interested in:

Popcorn Hour A-110

HDX Networked Media Tank Player - HDX 1000 NMT Player

Has anyone had any time with any of these types of devices? It looks to be a great product in theory, but i am concerned about it's longterm usability and build quality.

The HDX 1000 looks to be lil better built but it is very new and info/opinions about it are not abundant. I did see a few comments about the HDX 1000 running cooler than the popcorn hour. I am more interested in the HDX 1000 over the popcorn hour.

So what do you folks think? would you give it a shot? i know its not going to be just "plug and play" and will take some playing with (XBMC anyone?). Hardware is the big issue with me, (and the shipping from china ) and i don't wanna buy junk harware on the premise that the softwatre will do all these wonderful things.

jeez, no one atleast thinks these things are cool? in theory it would be a great idea for the 46" LCD/AVR in the family room. Just worried about having it shipped in from china and it showing up DOA or the like, and having to deal with getting a replacement. Functionality wise, i could get by with tweaking and playing with it to get it how i like as long as the decoders work properly.

I am surprised nobody answered your post! These players are wild famous now!

I have used most of the players mentioned. Currently the best NMT out there is the EGreat EG-M34A. It has all the features of all the others and is very inexpensive.

EGreat EG-M34A High-definition Network Media Tank (NMT)

By the way, the egreat site you link to just poses as a "direct sale" site. They are just a small retailer.

It seems most folks really just want play some BT downloads on their TV, and for that the best way to go is a Media Station for $59 from www.deflixious.com . Simple solution.

Thanks for openning the topic.
