Re: Improve or buy new PC? [56k Warning!]

You don't need watercooling to overclock. You need a new cpu cooler that's better than the stock one. Personally I have this one:

Newegg.com - ZALMAN CNPS 9700 NT 110mm 2 Ball Ultra Quiet CPU Cooler - CPU Fans & Heatsinks

and I'm very happy with it, even if it's not the best one out there.

That's a good start. Those AMD's aren't very good overclocking cpu's but you can push it at least a little bit.

Re: Improve or buy new PC? [56k Warning!]

With your current system, going with another 8800 in SLI would be counter-productive. That 5600+ most likely isn't fast enough to get the full benefit of the single 8800 you have now.

So, either a better HSF, and OC the 5600+, or replace it with something faster. According the the ASUS web site, the fastest CPU that MB will support is the 6400+.

i say you get the 6400+ CPU and the CPU cooler that was suggested earlier and you should be good. and then, OC everything you have now for better performance

Nice build. that cpu/mobo combination should last you quite a while... and maybe next generation is the time to upgrade the GFX.

Re: Improve or buy new PC? [56k Warning!]

I have problem with temperature. Everest ultimate edition showing me on the cores around 40C on eahc core and total cpu is 22C on pulpit mode when cpu usage is 2% and this asus AI SUITE sometimes showing me 109C on cpu wtf? What software is the best to show temperature? ANd how to controll this casse fans speed? This Asus software looks little crap. Dont read rpm from casse fans only cpu and power one LOL. So far i dont have any problems. Its look like this asus software is not to good. Looking for something what can controll all my fans to dont use them on max speed all the time. Or meaby i need to do some difrent setup in this asus software?

Your temps (the Everest ones) look fine to me. You can try Real Temp or Core Temp for temps monitoring, but it should show same temps as Everest. For fan control I use the Q-Fan function of the motherboard.

Re: Improve or buy new PC? [56k Warning!]

That's the wisest upgrade path you could have chosen. Your cpu would have held that 8800GTX back and now you'll be able to get the most out of your system until a GPU upgrade (IMO you're better off with newer GPU than SLI 8800's).

On top of all that it looks really nice

to add to what Omega just said here, you have an Intel p45 board. this means that you will NOT be able to run SLI on that board. only ATI x-fire is supported on this board.

Certainly not the AI Suite temps. The other programs show the right temps, just the Real Temp seems to be configured for a 5 degrees lower Tjmx value. As far as I know Intel didn't disclose the exact Tjmax vaules for Q6600, but any of the three programs shouldn't be far from truth
