what Graphics Card should I get??????

Hay guys I have a friend who is in the UK and is coming back in December; and i asked her to get me a graphics card.

Herein lies the problem she has a strict budget of £130.00 inc. vat that's it people

no more no less for the graphic card.

So my question is what is the best card out there for that amount? so if any one can; the help will be highly appreciated, the motherboard am running is a K9A2 platnium and my power supply is a Proline 800watt so ithink that is suffficient to power any type of card lol

The Price pretty much dictates a shootout between Radeon HD 4850 and Nvidia 9800GT
Can't manage either a 4870 or a 9800GTX at the price.

... wins for the 4850 in most tests.

The balance may shift, as the supplier in that review has a 9800GTX that falls just inside the price band

Just as the previous posts

4850 is the best deal

if you want somethimg cheaper
get 4670 512 MB for 80$
Or 4670 1 GB for 120$

But From the reviews the best performance for that price range was 4850

It'd be really great to get a second hand 9800GTX+ or maybe a second hand 8800 Ultra if you can squeeze under the budget.

Do you want CUDA etc.?
Anything else we should know? e.g. Power Supply, AA fanatic...

Amen. Go for one of those dude, the 3850 kicked enough ass for a low price. The 4850 kicks even more for an even better one

Naaa am not much of a AA fanatic, i just wanted something that would deliver some reasonable performance on the latest games, on my screen (22") that's all, i must admit the budget is reall a restricting factor

Thats what i have been hearing but i just wanted to confirm with you guys in the know before i finally decide on getting it since i still have a lot of time till December, i was hoping for a 4870 for that price but that's wishfull thinking

Too bad you have a strict 130 pounds budget. Even though i almost always buy Sapphire, I think that in this case this one would be my choice (140 pounds), just for the quality dual-slot cooler:

That's also a very good choice IMO. I like dual slot coolers.

I think that for the HD4850 they are a must, if you consider the heat dissipation of this card.

Well, do keep in mind that it's still a few weeks until "December" and prices have been known to come down when newer products are released. So, it's a good thing you're keeping an eye on the options.

That looks like a good choice indeed but can't you send her 10 quid more to get you the Gainward Golden Sample HD4850 instead? That would just be perfect at a price of 141 pounds including vat. Reviews on the golden sample look pretty good indeed.

I also do not qualify for a credit card, but I still get paypal through a debit card. Maybe this could also work for you?

I don't know the exact details, but basically it's going to the bank, asking for a debit card account, going to paypal, setting up an account, and following the instructions on their site as you would for a credit card.
