Re: LCD monitor gaming question
I wouldn't suggest it considering the prices of what you've been discussing, but Dell's having a nice sale on the Ultrasharp 2408. It's normally 600-660 ($US), but is now $517. Don't know how long the sale will last though.
At that price, it may be a consideration for you phantommenace2. It's got a very good PVA screen, enhanced gamut backlight, very good color and contrast, HDMI/DVI/VGA/Displayport/Svideo/Composite Video inputs, USB hub, and HDCP - even a built in card reader. The stand for the panel does everything except stand the monitor on its head. Here is the link to the US site. I've seen one working too - it looks great.

Re: LCD monitor gaming question
i had to quickly skim the thread as it's 6:12am but..
i'm loving my benq FP241VW, 24" 1920x1200, it's a VA panel as i needed decent color quality but not expensive IPS prices, & i cant stand any TN colors, but i also wanted to game on it as much as i love seeing 85hz on a crt... colors were more important for me, so i avoided low response TN panels input lag 'feels' ~15 to at most 30ms, good thing i didnt get the dell 2408WFP (apparently double input lag) it has scaling options, as do gfx drivers, but i've only scaled with old games like serioussam (1600x1200) with black borders 1920x1200 is a dream & once you get used to it, you cant go back to anything less! (i come from using 1024x768 from 2002-2008, have used 1440x900 & 1680x1050 outside home) since you'll be looking at it all the time, & you want it to last, you shouldnt really cheap out, mine was ~$500 so it all comes down to *panel type & where you wanna sacrifice - TN vs MVA/PVA vs IPS *decent monitors have scaling & 1:1 mapping (as do drivers), so higher resolutions shouldnt be an issue & will futureproof *input lag & response time ghosting *availability, i wouldnt trust shipping, i got mine in person (was hard to find even in a big city, though a good price was the main problem, not stock) *make sure you're aware of any faults/issues that exist on a model you're looking at (like 2408wfp's input lag, 2407-hc's inverse ghosting, other panels with poor colors, etc) i spent literally a month before even picking my monitor, & learned so much, quite fascinating really (that & there are only 4 major manufacturers of panels - samsung, lg, au (benq owned), chi mei) |

Re: LCD monitor gaming question
A nice monitor indeed - forgot about that BenQ VA panel model as it's been very difficult to find in stock anywhere lately...
Did see though, it's available directly from BenQ on sale for $449.00 US - an excellent deal. The link to BenQ's online store page for that monitor is HERE and be sure to click the Special Offers tab on that page to get the discount, and free shipping codes they offer, if you're interested in it.
