Rosetta stone - headset/mic
Relative novice... basic understanding and can make more normal things work. However, I just bought a Creative Gaming Wireless HS-1200 USB and would like to use it with my Rosetta stone software as well.
The headset appears to work normally and I can hear mouseclicks and when in Sound Control panel, detection is noted and the green bar moves as I speak. I think the issue is that it is in a category for 'Headset' and Rosetta stone is looking for a 'Micropone'. In the control panel Microphone is grayed out and Headset is green. This is the same for sound as well. Rosetta stone recognizes the included USB headset which makes both the Mic and Playback Green, but with the Creative Headset, there is no recognition. When I start the program, it says there is no headphone. Any thoughts? I would really like to use it wireless... in that I want to do Rosetta Stone while I run. I have a wireless mouse which works great. Thanks Last edited by rosesj; Nov 16, 2008 at 08:04 PM. |

Re: Rosetta stone - headset/mic
Hey there, I had the same problem as you and it was driving me crazy for days... I've found a solution finally! I'm running Windows Vista Ultimate SP2(beta) and what is basically a problem is that rosetta only recognises a mic if your device has the word microphone in it... so in vista you go to start->control panel->Sound, choose recording tab and right click on your Headset, choose Properties and in the General tab change the words Headset to Microphone HS or something similar with the word microphone in it, press OK, apply all the changes and start up your Rosetta, in System preferences within the rosetta stone application you'll see your headset mic... It should work fine now
![]() Now I do have a win xp pc and I'm gonna try to fix this problem in there as well so far as I can remember you cannot change the name of the devices in Win XP but I'll post my finding once I get them... Hope this helps someone ![]() EDIT: Ok I installed the headset on Windows XP and the problem does not exist on it, The mic is recognised properly and Rosetta sees and likes it so there you go. Problem SOLVED
I have finally found a solution! I found it by chance on the rosetta stone troubleshooting page. I have nod 3 antivirus + firewall and in the firewall settings the rosetta stone application was blocked (it was denied internet access). I just deleted it from the list and the next time rosetta stone asked for internet access I clicked yes. Now rosetta stone detects both my dynamic microphone and my usb headset and it works fine. Hope this works for everybody.
