3.08 ghz :d

I did it Just need to improve cooling in my case somehow because my cpu topped 65 degrees under load at 1.33V (Up from 1.32 and still got it stable )

3.08GHz stock voltage

3.08GHz @ 1.33v (up from 1.32 )

It topped 65 degrees under load, i've tried adding a couple more fans but i can't keep the temps down so i've had to clock it back down to 2.8
Was about 45 degrees at idle. Think i might still have my 3850 OC'd and that's gonna be chucking out like 20 extra degrees so i'll reset the clocks on that and try again later

that's the problem with CPU cooling, the core gets heated up too quickly, so there isn't enough time to transfer the heat to the sink and get the sink cool again... maybe with a different (bigger) sink and those coolers you've added the temps would go down to 55, maybe 50 at full load, but i doubt they would go lower than that...

it was a nice test though...

now do the same to your GFX card... hahahahaha

i've seen a few enthusiasts litterly rip the heat spreader off thier cpu's in order to avoid the middle man of the heat transfer world...

some of thier results have been good.. ONLY when they haven't destroyed the cpu in the process lol... (course this doesn't work on newer chips )

plus on an LGA775 setup you need to tape the CPU in place when it has no IHS since that is how it is held down in the socket

You should be able to use AMD Overdrive to OC on your setup. It's an easy way to try different settings without having to reboot everytime you change something.

It's an easy way to get a feel for it, to learn how it works.

I also quickly googled and found this guide. I haven't read through it so I don't know if it's any good, it was the first one I found.

AMD K10 - Phenom Overclocking Guide Articles - OCIA.net

Though. If you have a Black Edition Phenom it's basically very easy. Just raise the multiplier and then increase the cpu voltage a bit to make it stable. Do it in small steps. Never heard of a black edition 9650 though. Also, since you have a B3 stepping Phenom you should make sure that the TLB patch is not active since that takes away a bit of performance from the cpu.

If it's a black edition, then all you need to do is up the multiplier. Do this gradually, and on the way you need to monitor temperatures carefully and increase voltages (by very small amounts) to ensure stability.

hmmmmmm... wounder if i could do that on an old PII motherboard with a 66MHz FSB... change the 66MHz quartz crystal osc with some with a higher value, let's say 80MHz, or 75MHz, that way i would OC the CPU as well, since the mother board and the CPU have no jumpers or BIOS settings for OCing... do you think it would work...?

all i know is the motherboard i've got here with a PII 350mhz and 100mhz fsb... i was able to manage to get up to 500mhz on some pretty elaborate air cooling... twas fun..... till things started smoking.

well, that i s the whole problem, this board only has two jumpers. one says "Turbo", which changes the FSB from 66MHz to 100MHz, an the other says "PC133" which changes the FSB from 100MHz to 133MHz. the CPU is Intel 500MHz Celeron. there are no OCing options in the BIOS of the mother board.

when i change the jumper that says "Turbo" from 66MHz to 100MHz, it doesn't even show the post screen, all the coolers start and it stays that way... the same thing happens when the "Turbo" jumper is set to 100MHz and the "PC133" jumper is set to 133MHz... i guess the CPU can't take a 100MHz or a 133MHz FSB.

so the question is... can it take a 70Mhz, 75MHz, 80MHz FSB... if my math is right, the multiplier factor is 500/66=7.57, so at these FSB values, the CPU power would be:

70MHz FSB --> 530MHz CPU
75MHz FSB --> 566MHz CPU
80MHz FSB --> 605MHz CPU

i know this is a little bit off topic (sorry for ruining your show Mousey...), but does anybody think that this could actually be done...?
