Default Post Dungeon siege low Fps

Helllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllp:
For the second time in my 20 springs, I legaly bought a PC game (AvP2 was the first); Dungeon siege.
Being impressed by the demo and encouraged by Zardon and many others, I spent some hard earned cash(I was about to drawn in a lake of tears.....) and got my own full version of DS.
Upon installing the game on my system, I was shocked by the real low fps and the slow downs . The thing is, I tried the demo and it ran twice as fast as the retail version.
Nowadays, I rarely hit the 30 fps out doors, and 45 fps in doors with no shadows at all.
Here's my system:
Amd Athlon 1233 MHZ
ATi Radeon 8500LE 285/295
Catalyst drivers
384 DDR 137 MHz
Hercules Fortissimo II
Shuttle Ak31 V3.1
I score a more than respectable 8K in 3D MArk 2k1, and Aniso is off as well as V-Sync and any sorta Smoothvision.
Help :'(
Doh I forgot to mention I'm runing Win Xp with all the patches ...

The Crazy man needs some help ehhh...

Well I'm a huge DungeonSiege freak so let me see If I can help ..

1) Get the patch
http://www.dungeonsiege.com/beta_ds109b.shtml

2) After patching go into the Installed folder and look for.i.e C:/program files/Microsft Games/Dungeon Siege/DSVideoConfig.exe..once found run it and set

1)Video Driver to "Primary display adapter hardware"
2)Shadows set to "simple"
3)Resolution "1024 x 768"
4)Filtering is set to "Bilinear"
5)Hopefully you are running Cyborgs or ATIs Catalyst drivers, set your anistropic filtering to 8X in the D3D tab (looks much better than trilinear)
6) With those above settings I average 70-80 fps in the forests and dungeons and 35 to 50 in the cities.

the shadowing is the killer yes, most certainly lower it, or even turn it off.. its the same with the shadowing on MOHAA......

yes I was dissapointed with the frame rates on the game as well, but lowering or removing the shadowing really helps it out alot... its a fantastic game though, I lost about 2 months of my life with it !!

dungeon siege was a waste, no story, purty graphics, tired gameplay, "never-quite-good-enough" trappings, unimpressive enemies, bland enemies, bland environments (except the forests were really neat...until the 4th hour or so), dumb character models (anyone remember summoner? verrrry similar), over-hyped, over-priced, crappily coded (microsoft...oh why can't you program games for your own OSes?), lame sound effects, poor 4 channel localization (compared to morrowind, or even system shock 2), cheap feeling interface, archers and mages too powerful, skill levels give more impedances for slightly better items, bah!

I played through it once, played some multiplayer, and realized my level 67 guy with 562 armor and 143-215 damage battleaxe had NO challengers. bah. hopefully neverwinter nights will be much better

DS r0x0rz man:
I haven't really played any other RPG beside Diablo 2, and to say the truth, the regular slow downs are the only thing prohibiting me from classing this MS game as my best ever.
I was amazed by the demo, and the full version hasn't failed to make me feel that little fuzzy upon increasing in level or finding a magical weapon.
I can stay for hours before my 15 inch Nec playng that game, it's just too good.
Plus my girlfriend is like 4000 miles away from me so I can ring her up while playing, saving time and money by the way .
As I type these lines, my arsenal includes 3 characters with different abilities and a donkey .
I stepped into chapter four, and looking forward for the rest of the games(Kicking some Dragon butt is a main motive to play )

well the first paragraph is personal opinion as I know at least 20 people who love it, myself included.
and btw microsoft didnt program it. its all over the game who coded it.
and did you try the game online on veteran/elite level without cheats? there are many quests online including person to person combat. a level 67 character is most certainly not invunerable on the hardest level settings.

If you don't like Dungeon Siege then you don't like RPG's, I've been playin RPG's a long time and playin with a group of friends (we played with four) with Roger WIlco and had a blast, it really is a pumped up Diablo 2.
Online missions had quests (to claim a town stone from each town) although not as indepth as single player was alot of fun. Not to mention the siege editor has been released and already the community is developing a new map with more dungeons etc..
Everyone has their opinion, I don't agree with a Reno at all though, if he's level 67 and not having any challenges he hasn't made to jump to veteran mode, I'm level 88 on elite mode with no cheats and my fighter has over 2,200 hitpoints and my sword does over 500 points of damage and I get my ass Handed to me regularly in the Pyrimid of the Dead

It's not really an RPG, more like hack and slash if you ask me. You just ruin around and kill stuff, no plot. I like DS and all, but it's not really an RPG.

Default Post clarification

this response warrents an actual post subject!

RPG=Role playing game

Diablo2 and Dungeon Siege=Action/Hack n' slash with RPG statistics

RPG= Planescape: Torment (BEST...ROLEPLAYING...GAME...EVER...), Baldurs Gate 2 (the first one...ugh, so lame, level 7 maximum? come on!), Neverwinter Nights (though not as deep as planescape, more on par with Baldurs Gate 2 save the world, blah blah), Ultima 7, Ultima 9 (shut up, on my system it runs fine and is still the most in depth ultima ever), Vampire: The Masquerade -Redemption, Fallout, Fallout 2, Morrowind (especially puts the "role" in role playing games...so open ended! yikes! still haven't beat it and I'm level 78!), Final Fantasy 6, Final Fantasy 7, Chrono Trigger, Chrono Cross (old school platform RPGs rule!), and a whole bunch of crappy wannabes.

D2 and DS are not meant to be deep games, but come on, anyone who's played Diablo 2 KNOWS Dungeon Siege has almost NO STORY WHATSOEVER. It's like Doom's three paragraph story in a readme file. Even reading all the books I found playing the single player I still felt utterly detatched from any "plot" and just kept myself busy trying to find something better than my grenade launcher. In Diablo 2 at least there was a semi-cohesive "devils corrupting humans, want complete control, danger" plot...instead of the "you are an adventurer! save the kingdom of bllasdd...uh, well, just kill some monsters and get some phat lewt on your way to level 150!" in dungeon siege.

AGH! Anyone who says DS is an RPG spits in the face of Role playing games!

edit: I just realized I play Fallout and Final Fantasy 6 on an SNES emulator on my 2000+ dollar rig...dear lord...what have I done! my poor system is underworked!
