Another dual monitor question... =/

It appears one of my monitors is dieing on me...or something. This one came always on, the power button to turn the monitor on and off came stuck when we bought it. It was no big deal, still don't think it is, but now it just shuts off randomly. I notice that when I push and pull the power cord on back of the monitor(not push/pull it out of the socket, but side to side, toward/away from the monitor keeping it plugged in still) it turns the monitor back on, sometimes only for a little while, then I get the same problem again...this monitor is old so I doubt I still have warranty on it, and I don't know how to open it up to see whats wrong. I'm afraid I might completely mess it up even more than it is messed up already....

Anyways....does dual monitor work if I get me a new monitor thats completely different? Different size (I want a bigger one), and different model maybe...

sounds like the circutry in the back is failing... losing connections and then regaining it speratically...

to asnwer your question though.. yes you can mix brands, sizes, resolutions, refreshrates of your choosing..... so long as your card supports the resolutions.

you can mix a 640x480 14" CRT with a 52" 1920x1080 without any issues...

Means that you shouldn't even THINK about doing that. Even after thay are turned off, and power cords disconnected, CRT's have some SERIOUS voltage just 'sitting' there waiting to bite the unwary/uneducated. The biggest thing you might end up "messing up" is YOU.

Anyway, from what you are describing, I'd say that your monitor is on it's last legs, and it's time for a new one.

I'm running dual monitors, and no, thay don't have to be identical. In fact, my main monitor is a 24" Wide Screen CRT, and the secondary is a standard 20" 4:3 CRT. I have run dual monitors for YEARS, (since Win95 when it took 2 cards to do it), and have never had 2 identical monitors.

LCD, so there is no worries for the risk of high voltages in certain areas in the inside of the motor...

replace the power cord cable, or better yet, switch it with the power cord cable of the primary monitor. if the same thing appears again, but on the primary monitor, then the problem is the cable. if not, then the problem is the secondary monitor.

the problem may also be mechanical (sort of speaking). try pulling the cord a little bit from the power connector on the monitor, or tightening it in really hard inside the power connector... one of these two suggestions might work...

Well, all you originally said was OLD and MONITOR, so I assumed that it was a CRT

I'd still rather be wrong, and warn you about it though.
