No Sound on PC??
Hello,
Need a little help on my old rig. Basically I've changed cases, moving my existing better case to my new i7 system and put my old a64 system in an older case. However now my a64 system has no sound at all and i can't figure out what's causing it.Am using Realtek onboard sound on a DFI Lanparty UT SLI-DR board, Bios is saying onboard audio is on AUTO, in vista device manager it looks fine. In control panel, sound both speakers and recording are pointing towards Realtek and marked as working. Have tried replacing speakers, still no response. I have no idea what's wrong. Perhaps the onboard sound fried? Don't have a spare sound card to check. Everything seems ok, I dont think i forgotten anything that is left unplugged on the mobo ![]() Help

Re: No Sound on PC??
I've checked everything, even gave the onboard card a big nudge to make sure the pins are in properly. The only differences I can think is that before I had the front panel audio pins plugged into the onboard card, whereas now the case doesnt have those so I've removed it, and of course + or - a few case fans.
Gona try reinstalling the onboard card from scratch and see how that goes. don't see that making a difference though. update: found a spare sound card lying around; disabled onboard, plugged it in and boom it's working. So I conclude the onboard card fried for no reason wotsoever, I was very careful handling it, didnt even touch it other than removing the front panel pins from it. The realtek software can scan for speakers connected to the onboard soundcard and it didnt find a thing; even though vista says speakers and mic were working. Although now with a soundcard it brings a new dilemma. The graphics card must use the bottom pcie slot as i have a zalman northbridge cooler that nulls the top one inusable. and the pci slot for the soundcard is very close to the graphics card, so close that it's less than 1 cm from the face of the gpu fan and hot air is bouncing right back at the gpu now. *sigh* Last edited by nicnik; Dec 25, 2008 at 04:46 PM. |

Re: No Sound on PC??
You've probably forgotten all about them, since you only touched them once to remove them, but do you remember there being a set of jumper blocks connecting 2 sets of the onboard audio headers when you bought the board? If you aren't using the header you need to put them back on for HD audio cards, or, set the audio portion in the bios to AC97. This isn't the case for all motherboards, but some do require them to be on if you aren't using the header. It puts the card into a sort of loopback or some sort. In this case it could be why yours isn't working.
Edit: Took me a bit, but I think I have it. Take a look at this picture: ![]() See the 2 blue jumper blocks on the daughter board? To use the front panel audio header on that card you need to remove those 2 jumpers, and connect the front panel header at this port, however you need to put those 2 jumpers back in place if you aren't using that connector anymore.

Re: No Sound on PC??
Ah yes, I remember removing them ages ago when I changed cases.. lol too bad my manual doesn't mention about it and I have the suckiest of memories. thanks so much, it is now working fine and my graphics card has got the breathing space it deserves. !!111!!2!
