HD4670 or 8800gs?

I found both for the same price, and i'm not sure wich one i should get, most reviews say the HD4670 is a better option, but incluiding the price factor, since both are at the exactly same price, and the 8800GS is a factory oc'ed with the core running at 680mhz(stock= 550mhz) AND it's also fatory dc'ed with the memory running at 1400mhz(stock= 1600mhz), i really don't know wich one to get....Thanks in advance.

I will play the games on 1024x768 with AA.

Re: HD4670 or 8800gs?

It all depends what kind of power you need, the 4670 is probably the better choice because the 8800gs was pretty much just a failure on nvidia's part. However if you're wanting to run newer games i'd advise saving up a bit more cash and getting an aged but still powerful 8800GT or even a Radeon HD3850.

I'm running a 3850 myself and i get some very impressive frames at high settings on games like crysis and far cry 2, it was vastly overlooked by not only DH but a very large proportion of people, and since you can pick them up for like £60 now i'd highly recommend you go look for one.
Fairly low power requirements but some kick ass frames.

Just for the record an overclock like that is pretty poor imo, the fact it's factory clocked just means it's stable so that's probably all they could get out of it.

The 8800GS (=9600GSO btw) wan't exactly a failure, but that's besides the point. I'd imagine that at 1024x768 it'd be quite a lot quicker than the 4670 due to it's larger bus and more capable core.

The 3850 isn't far ahead of those two, but the 8800GT is in a different league. I'd say a 9600GT (ATI equivalent is 3870) would be a better choice, or a HD4830 if you want to spend a little more, but that the 8800GS is the better choice of the two you mentioned for your needs. It's also worth noting that the ATI 3*** series struggled with AA.

Re: HD4670 or 8800gs?

Thank you both for your opinions!

In fact, there is a powercolor HD3850 PCS+ in the very same store for R$325, an HD3870 for R$385 and an 9600GT for R$420(8800gs and HD4670 are R$310, those are EXCELENT prices comparing to other stores), but i wasn't planning on spend that much. And the 3850 seems to be less powerful than both, im pretty sure there is a review here in DH that shows a 8800gs vs HD3850, but the 8800GS performs better.

Again thank you both for your opinnions, but i'm still in doubt...Oh, and two more things:
1-Will a 680/1400 Geforce 8800gs perform better than a 550/1600 one?(I wasn't able to find any review about this XFX model PV-T88S-FDDU)
2-Since the 8800gs and the 9600GSO use the same core, is the 8800gs able to run PhysX?And does it have CUDA?(well ATI have dx10.1, ok, i know it's almost useless, but it does!)

I have seen many reviews from many websites, and in some of them the 8800GS wins and others the HD4670 wins, but since they are at the same price(well, R$1 difference lol) i really can't decide...The difference between 680/1400 to 550/1600 is problably going to decide this...But i have to consider that the ATI solution is cooler(it's just change the cooler rpm) and uses less power(doesn't need a PCI-E connector)

PS.: I problably won't overclock any of them...But i may overclock the 8800gs to it's original memory clock(from 1400 to 1600) if needed.....

Thank you again and thanks in advance to the next answers

1.) I would have thought that 640/1400 would underperform 580/1600 (this card is not held back by the core), but the hardware is exactly the same so you could probably bios flash to get 640/1600 with no worries in either case.
2.) The 9600GSO and 8800GS are exactly the same in all but name, so yes you'd be fine with physx, CUDA etc.

Personally I think the 8800GS will be the better card for those settings, but you're not going to be dissapointed either way. If you've doubts over your power supply or case cooling, the 4670 is probably the way to go.
