side panel computer case fan in or out?

should I make the air go in or out? I have 1 fan in the front pulling air in, 2 fans at teh back blowing out. the side fan...thats where the video card is and stuff, I dont want to suck a bunch of dust into my case, so I have it blowing out. but it seems like theres no temp difference whether i have the side fan on or not...should i make it take air in? o.0

Re: side panel computer case fan in or out?

fan on the side-panel should be drawing air in from outside

Re: side panel computer case fan in or out?

A makeshift dustfilter would be useful. A small piece of thin, open fabric on the outside would help a lot. Or on the inside of the fan if you don't like having something visible on the outside, but then you may have to clean the fan from time to time.

What does the case look like? If the airflow through the case is good enough without the fan you could simply leave it off or remove it.

I have a fan on the side of my case too i would recommend that it sucks air in!! cant explain exactly why bit it some how helps with the circulation of air . And as for the dust all i can say is that there is no substitute for cleaning your case with a blower once in a while

Re: side panel computer case fan in or out?

generally the way you want to keep the flow of air is draw air in from the front/bottom and sides and out through the back and top as much as possible.

This creates a steady single directional flow of air through the major components of the system, if you were to setup the fan to suck the air from inside the case outside, it would be counter productive as it'd likely being taking the cooler air that was just coming into the case, out .... this creates "pockets" of stagnant air and also disrupts the flow.

Re: side panel computer case fan in or out?

Definitely ingoing and if you look at a few cases with a side fan it is usually located near the PCI-E and PCI slots ... this will provide fresh air for circulation to your video card as well.

You have 10 in the case itself that's cool ... wouldn't mind seeing some pics showing your airflow Kris
