Opinions on WDC's 1T WD10EADS HD?
Am considering these for my new rig but wondering if anyone has one and what your opinion of it is as a general all purpose HD. I found a cpl reviews that seemed to think it was a good drive but actual users probably have a better idea than a site that just runs some benches

They are a wee bit slow in the system drive role since they are 5400rpm drives after all, but if you're aiming for a really silent system it could be worth it. I'd prefer a WD Caviar Black or Samsung F1 for the system drive, then GreenPower/EcoGreen's for storage and such.

Re: Opinions on WDC's 1T WD10EADS HD?
Well the drives are for my new system I'm building. I mainly will be using the computer for school work, Vid editing, and playing a few games online.
I had already bought one st31000340as 1TB barracuda drive and was considering getting a second Seagate so that I could install Windows 7 on a seperate drive but when I went to newegg I saw that the Seagate apparently has a really bad/high failure rate and the last thing I need is for the drive to die halfway thru semester. I've only once had a WD drive go bad and WDC was great about getting me a replacement. Additionaly the new system has a Core 2 Quad 6600 cpu, a Sapphire 4870x2 card and my PSU is 650 W Infinity by enermax so was thinking that the reduced power consumption with the WD drives & their 32 meg caches would be a benificial trade off for the slightly slower RPM. Am I assuming wrong? |
