Re: computer shuting off
IMO, it sounds like it's a PSU issue. what kind of PSU is in there? what is the +12v rail reading at? Idealy, you don't want the +12v rail to go below 11.80v under full load. however, it's preferred that it would be between 12.10 and 11.90v at all times, and that it stays pretty consistent as to where it stays instead of jumping around all over the place.

Re: computer shuting off
what is/are the amps on the +12v rail? if the amperage is too low for the whole system, particularly when gaming or under other heavy loads, it's likely to cause the system to do this.
if you are able to find out this information and the information i asked earlier, it should better help us find the cause here. because, i still believe it's the PSU. particularly since it's a no-name brand that came with the case . if it says "520w" then it's probably really a 250w with a 60 second peak of 520w..."250w" is over exaggerated, but you get what i mean |

Re: computer shuting off
the brand of the psu was ecco something.. i had two psu here 420 watt and a 400watt i took my 400 watt to his house last night and installed it for him and we started playing games to see if it would shut off again and that seem to be the issues he was having and the computer never shut off... i want to thank you guys for your help... DH ROCKS and the members!!!!

Re: computer shuting off
be forwarned..... PSU's that aren't powerful enough will produce that problem... but also take note that while initiall some PSUs will work without a problem.. or noticeable problem... they will deteriorate far quicker due to be overstressed or being on the edge of failure.
I would HIGHLY suggest investing a few dollars in a higher quality psu.. because in the end, it could potentially mean a machine that is reliable and one that isn't. And bad ones can sevearly lower the lifespan on your hardware.

![]() And as Judas mentioned your buddy might want to find a better PSU as a permanent solution.

Re: computer shuting off
i'd suggest that your friend gets this OCZ PSU right now from NewEgg. there's a rather attractive rebate going on for it.
