PSU installation question

I have a Stacker Case and a nice new Enermax PSU. Am running into a problem tho. The PSU's fan guard has a medalion welded to it that makes it impossible to fir the PSU thru the hole in the back of the case. How risky is it to run the PSU without the fan guard attached? There are no loose cables near where the PSU goes so not really worried a wire would get into the way of the fans blades.

Seems my options at this point would be to do one of several things

1. Simply remove the guard and install the PSU without it.

2. Get a pair of Dikes and cut the medallion off the grill

3. See if there is enough room to flip the guard over so the medallion is inside the PSU instead of on the outside

or

4. Not sure but I might be able to remove the guard, place it inside the case slide the PSU in and then screw the guard back down

Any opinions as to which would be best option

Re: PSU installation question

That's odd they would make it that way PSU's mount in a standard fashion. You should have some sort of guard on it ... can you show us the issue with a pic?

Re: PSU installation question

heres a pic and as you can see there is a silly "Enermax medallion in the center of the guard and that seems be whats stopping me from being able to just slide the PSU in

Re: PSU installation question

You could use the bottom PSU placement. Plenty of room to install and better for the PSU.

Re: PSU installation question

Good point especially since the bottom area has nothing in it. One thing tho, based on the premiss that hot air rises and cool air falls, which way should I face the fan. The bottom of the Stacker case has a large air intake area. Do you think I should place the PSU so the fan faces down and pulls air from the outside of the case or should I install it so that its pulling air from inside the case even tho there would be nothing near it generating any heat for it to suck out?

MAybe I'm just being stupid but want to do things right/best

Re: PSU installation question

is your case a Stacker 830/832 or one of those 810s?

Re: PSU installation question

It's a Cooler Master CM Stacker STC-T01-UWK. Here's a link to what it looks like:
Cooler Master - Ultimate provider of Computer Chassis | Cooler | Power Supply

and this is a link to the actual pdf manual:

Re: PSU installation question

My CM 690 also has the bottom intake area and I always chose to draw fresh air in with it. It really depends on what the temps are like in the rest of your case. Keep in mind though if you are drawing off the case by mounting the PSU the other way the heat is still only being "pushed" out of the case by the 80mm fan (in most cases) on the front of the PSU.

I do think bottom mounting is the most viable solution either way

Re: PSU installation question

Think I'm going to go ahead and use the bottom position with the fan facing down. Will make mucking with the PSU's modular cables a lot easier and will reduce air flow clutter up top. Need to do some measuring tho just to make sure the PSU's cables can reach far enough to connect to the MB's plugs LOL

Thx for your advice
