Memory upgrade, need a bit of assistance please! :)
Evening Gents!
I'm looking for a bit of assistance with a ram purchase if it all possible. I have 3 different brands of memory I'm considering for my upgrade, they are the following: #1: G.SKILL F2-6400CL4D-4GBPI-B PC2-6400 4GB 2X2GB DDR2-800 CL4-4-4-12 240PIN Pi Black Series Memory Kit. #2: Kingston HyperX PC2-6400 4GB 2X2GB DDR2-800 CL5-5-5-15 240PIN DIMM Dual Channel Memory Kit. #3: OCZ Gold XTC OCZ2G10664GK 4GB 2X2GB DDR2-1066 CL5-6-6-18 240PIN Dual Channel Memory Kit. (In regards to this one. I realize it's 1066 opposed to 800. Would the 1066 downgrade to 800? As I'm not completely sure my motherboard officially supports 1066 DDR2.) I'm leaning towards the G.SKILL's memory, however it is not a brand I'm familiar with. Does anyone have any experience with this type of ram? Another concern with this ram (given my unfamiliarity) would be compatibility with motherboard. Which is a: MSI P35 Neo Combo-F (<a href="http://global.msi.com.tw/index.php?f...&cat3_no=#menu" target="_blank">MSI -- MICRO-STAR INT'L CO., LTD.</a>) Any assistance you fellows could offer would be much appreciated! any higher end memory will always be able to downgrade to a lower value ...such as 800 down to 666 or the 1066 down to 800 or 666
The advantages of having say the 1066 memory is that when clocked lower, usually yeild even faster/tighter timings as well as a little bit more stability and reliability. while personally i would jump for the 1066 out of the 3 ... specially if running at 800.... i think a few other peoples opinions would be in order yet

Re: Memory upgrade, need a bit of assistance please! :)
***Update:
Managed to fix my issue. Had to change the ratio (was called something long those lines) to 1:1:20 or something similar to that. Which set it to 800 opposed to 1067. Now have it running at what it should be, 4-4-4-12 @ 1.9v ------------------------------------- ------------------------------------- Hiya Folks! Alrighty, so I got vista and my new ram today. After a bit of fiddling I managed to get both the ram and vista installed fine (or so it seems currently lol). I have noticed one issue however with the ram. The factory defaults for this particular ram are to run at 800 and then 4-4-4-12 @ 1.9 volts. Now, they're currently running at 1067 (thought the max was 1066? heh) and 5-7-7-20. FSB to DRAM is 5:8 I've tried going in and setting them manually to 4-4-4-12 @ 1.9 (I'm not quite sure what to set my FSB to DRAM to though to drop it back down to 800) however when my computer/bios restarts it just black screens and I'm required to go in and short the CMOS jumper, etc.. to get it working again. I then have to load optimized defaults and what not and everything is fine again (running at 1067, etc). Does anyone happen to have a suggestion as to what may be causing this? Or have a suggestion. Are the settings my BIOS seems to be defaulting to better that the factory defaults (I'm doubtful but you never know heh). Any help would be appreciated! I am assuming you went with the DDR2-1066 RAM and 2 things I have to suggest. Most motherboards do set DDR2-1066 RAM to 800 by default and also check your voltage.
1) If memory ratios allow you to run this RAM at 1066 or 1067 then do so. If your motherboard allows this ratio then the board must support this speed. 2) Most motherboards set the RAM voltage to the standard 1.8v (DDR2) so if you can manually set the recommended voltage of 1.9V. I have OCZ DDR2 and DDR3 RAM here one set runs at 2.1V and the other at 1.7V in both cases on 2 motherboards they are set by default to DDR2-800 @ 1.8V and DDR3-800 @ 1.5V. Hope this helps
