Need help [9800GTX+/4850]

Hi everyone.

The time has come to grab me a new GPU and i cant decide.
Iv seen different rankings on the net and just cant choose one.
Im mainly looking for ingame performance and stability .. the heat is not as much of an issue since ill be replacing the stock cooling with TT DuOrb.

So here they are. These are available atm and they are almost identical in price :
1.XFX GF 9800GTX+ 765MHz 512MB DDR3 256bit DUAL DVI TVOUT PCI-E 'PhysyX,Cuda, Hybrid Power'
2.Asus EAH4850/HTDI/512M,DDR3 256 bit,625MHz,HDTV,DVI-Ix2(1HDCP),DVI-HDMI adapter,DX10.1

So what would u recommend ?

The rest of my system is Asus P5E x38 mobo,2GB Kingston KHX DDR2,C2D E4600.

EDIT: BTW im not planing on using crossfire in the future so either one will do.

out of the two I'd go for the GTX+

Re: Need help [9800GTX+/4850]

I have a 9800GTX+ and love it. The performance between the two is similar, but the 4850 is smaller, if room in your case is an issue, and the 9800GTX+ runs a lot cooler than the single slot 4850s.

There's also technologies like physx to consider, best to look at ATI and Nvidias websites for a full listing.

I'd reccomend just reading reviews (google searching "9800GTX+ review", for example, should yeild many results) and deciding which card suits your needs best.

Re: Need help [9800GTX+/4850]

Thanks guys

@blibbax i did look at a lot of reviews and comparisons between the two but some say 9800GTX+ is better others say that 4850 is better etc so i know they are about the same. Im leaning to 9800GTX+ but u mentioned its big so i just googled size. Is it really 28cm long ? I have a midi tower case so im not sure if it would fit inside ill have to do some mesurments in the morning.

Thanks again guys and if anyone has anything more to say feel free to do so

Re: Need help [9800GTX+/4850]

If you do have room the 9800GTX+ is a nice platform as the GPU runs much cooler than the 88xx series. On the 4850 nice card as well but given the choices I would choose 9800GTX+ ... just being honest

I too would choose the 9800GTX+. On the reviews, oviously they'll come to different conclusions because the cards are closely matched and different reviewers have different priorities, but you need to look at why each reviewer chose the card they did.

Having said that, you can't go far wrong with the 9800 providing that it fits in your case. And yes, it really is 28cm long. I had to buy a new case for mine.

And a other postive aspect: often cards from XFX come with a game like AC, FC2 or CoD 4

both are good cards. 4850 runs hotter then hell so on that alone you may have made the better choice
