Cheapest case that will take a GTX295 ?...

Hi All,

I've been pondering this and - short of spending 2 hours in a store trying to physically put a GTX295 into a chassis - I can't seem to find the info I need

Any thoughts/suggestions much appreciated

Re: Cheapest case that will take a GTX295 ?...

The trick was to see if I can work out which one it is...

...without spending 2 hours opening and closing chassis

Everyone and their dog wants to tell you which PSUs to buy...

...but if you wanted a GTX295 (or 4870x2 for that matter), where does anyone find out which chassis will accommodate the card ?

That is cheap and has some volume

Problem with chassis vendors is that thay are mad-keen to let you know the external dimension, but for long cards etc you need to take the internal drive bays into account

I like the overall look of this Lian-Li, but - even with a glass side panel - it's hard to know how far down the mainboard will sit

Might work AND you keep the 3.5" bays...

...or they may need to take the long & short swords to the top of the family hill at dawn

Ooops: Forgot the link ! http://www.lian-li.com/v2/en/product...25&ss_index=62

Re: Cheapest case that will take a GTX295 ?...

If the GTX295 is less than 2" longer than a 3870 X2, then it WILL fit in the CM 690. I have 2"+ clearance between my 3870 X2 and the HDD bay.

The RC 590 has a bit less room in that area because the HDDs are installed in the "tradational" orientation, while the CM 690 has them mounted "sideways".

EDIT:

Did a bit of Googling

It seems that both it's the same length as the 3870 X2 and 4870 X2, 10.5" (267mm), so it will fit in either of the two above cases.

Anandtech says the 3870x2 is 10.5 inches

Amazon says that the GTX 295 is also 10.5 inches

Cool - I'm gonna file that under 'sorted'

I remember having the same questions around the X1800 All-in-Wonder

Had to spend ages in a store trying it - realised that most of the 'media centre chassis' used the middle part of the case (directly in line with the graphics slot) to mount the PSU/drive cage etc at the back

I'm gonna petition Zardon to see if we can get this kind of info included in future chassis reviews

Re: Cheapest case that will take a GTX295 ?...

Personally, I think that you will find the CM 690 more than adaquate.
However, if you really want more room, then the HAF 932 would be an excellent choice as long as you don't mind the styling. I was a bit put off of it from seeing just the pictures in the reviews, as I prefer the more understated styling of cases like the CM 690. However, I saw one later in Microcenter, and it actually looks better 'in the flesh' than it does in pictures. Yeah, it has the 'industrial' styling, but it's not really THAT bad.

It is quite a bit more than the CM 690, but it is also a lot bigger and has a lot more room for everything.

This may seem like an odd question so please don't take it the wrong way. Why are you looking for the cheapest case or having concerns spending 20-30 dollars more for a system than uses a 600 dollar video card?
