upgrading cpu worth it?

Is it worth upgrading my cpu? I've got my e6600 running at 3.2ghz now 24/7 and it's stable as can be. I've got a deal to exchange the e6600 for a q9550 with me paying an extra €150.
is that worth it, considering I will buy a new vga card to upgrade my x1950xt and going for a 24" screen..?

Re: upgrading cpu worth it?

What are the prices in your country for the Q9550 new?

Because the economic crisis is playing his game now and then, the prices are somewhat unstable...

And if you upgrade your graphics card, which card do you want to get? (a high-end card has more profit with a quad core).

Ok, then I should do it. E6600 is like 60/65 euro's (you can get a E5200 for 65 euro's too, new).

Maybe you can tell the guy that you will do it for 135/140, because then you well come at a price total of ~200 euro's (65+135). And since often the rule is new price * 0.8 you come at that number

By the way, which stepping is it and what is the VID?

Re: upgrading cpu worth it?

offered the guy €125. We'll see if he bites, if not.. no worries.
It's not like I really need the upgrade, but I want to work towards the 24" screen setup, and a beefier cpu + vga will be required for that, not to forget the 24" screen

and indeed bolletje, I visit tweakers pretty often.

I often think it's better to wait till the new stuff comes out and wait till the prices drop.. but thinking that way I've put off buying crucial new hardware for quite some time.. Guess it's time to act

Re: upgrading cpu worth it?

i'd get it the q9550. because now, the new CPU fab process is going to be moving towards LGA 1366, not LGA 775. I don't think that intel will continue making any high end 775s anymore, or at least will begin cutting production of such processors until they're phased out.

OMG that is so so true.
My friend purchased a Phenom I X4 9600 for $280 @ Newegg.
And 2 weeks later NewEgg had it for $119.00
My friend was pissed off about it, and still is at times.

You buy one thing now, and 2 weeks later the price drops in half and
then they company comes out with something far better and cheaper price.

Its and never ending sad circle.

You have to buy something that is at the very top, and takes a while
before the price drops on that item.
otherwise, you will be like my friend.
buying something now at 300 and 2 weeks later its up for 125.

I know its a ruff road, but thats the computer industry for ya.

sad to say, in one way, but great on another because of advance technologies.

Re: upgrading cpu worth it?

well reading tech news allot does give you some indication as to which items will have an imminant price drop. But it's silly to wait unless it's only a few weeks away. When I brought my 260gpu, I knew the 285, 295 was jus around the corner, so i jus had to wait a week or so for the prices to drop.

That's a huge drop! I would be pissed if price dropped that much especially in only 2 weeks >.<
