p5b deluxe dead?
hey guys my video card issues from previous threads has worsened, I bought a 9500gt to hold me over till my 8800gts gets rma'd. Well for some stupid reason after intalling it the asus logo on the board is red. I swapped back to the 8800gts and still no luck. Yanked out all the ram, no ram error beeps either. The CPU fan is running but the rear chasis fan is not. This is irritating, is my p5b done?

Re: p5b deluxe dead?
possibly, since youve used 3 cards in a row with issues, its obvious something is wrong with the RAM or mobo and its unlikely for ALL your RAM to go bad so the best guess is the board...
id try to RMA the board.

Re: p5b deluxe dead?
i didn't try 3 cards, only 2. Even if its empty im not getting a beep or anything I have in the past. I have no time for stupid chinese brand RMA's so I might have to buy a new board.... anyone have any futher advice on checking if the board is shot? Besides pulling it out to check for browning? I really don't wanna rebuild my system this week

Re: p5b deluxe dead?
if youve already checked your RAM then getting a new board is pretty much the only alternative

Re: p5b deluxe dead?
Get the P5Q-SE.... excellent board... unless of course you want RAID in which case the P5Q-SE/R would be your solution (check and make sure though.. i'm sure it's the right board)
I would otherwise recommend another board.. but i doubt you want to start spending some serious dollars on a now officially dead socket..... better invested in the new intel Core i7 socket then big dollars in the old.

Re: p5b deluxe dead?
The SE version is a little cheaper.... and more suitable specially if your not planning to overclock...

Re: p5b deluxe dead?
I saw the SE and the E, I like the E with the heat pipe on the northbridge, and yeah I do have a 60GBPS3. But I gotta live everyday, I need my main system. I am using a shitty dell inspiron d630 and I have a HP Core 2 Duo laptop, both terrible.

Re: p5b deluxe dead?
wipe the hp laptop and install a fresh copy.... that'll turn the laptop into something not nearly as terrible....

Re: p5b deluxe dead?
oh I did dude, long time ago changed from the preloaded crap they gave me to vista ultimate x64 and 4gb ram. the onboard graphics just is too weak for aero and any gaming on it. WoW even runs like crap. Anyways, off I go to buy a P5Q-E. I hate RMA's....

Re: p5b deluxe dead?
Were you able to find the P5Q-E cheaper than the EP45-UD3P BiGBrOwNPimpsta? Or did you just not want to try a Gigabyte board?

Re: p5b deluxe dead?
The UD3P is actually quite a reknowned overclocking board, I have 2 of them. The last ASUS board I bought required 3 RMA's. What sold me on Gigabyte was their P35 DQ6, I have done amazing things with it both on air and dry ice and it is now running an E8400 at 3.87GHz in my son's gaming rig 24/7 on a TRUE. It really deserves respect, I closed my eyes on numerous occasions not expecting it to come back after what I "asked" of it.
Have you ever seen this thread on the UD3 series? ** Official ** Gigabyte UD3 P45 Series -- EP45-UD3 / EP45-UD3R / EP45-UD3P - XtremeSystems ForumsI can understand going with what you know though, especially when imbibing.

Re: p5b deluxe dead?
well I installed the P5Q and using a 9500gt for the time being, going to take advantage of futureshop's return policy to hold me off LOL. i am really happy that i didnt have to reinstall ANYTHING but drivers!! is it because of Vista or since it was an Asus Intel chipset based board? I remember that the NT Kernel will not boot if the motherboard has been changed, it just stops before booting and needs to be reinstalled (no reformat necessary). If this is a change in Vista, it was a huge convinience.
Thanks for all the help, everyone is getting skulltrails next week from me |

Re: p5b deluxe dead?
vista's indeed far more friendly when making major changes to the board being used.... even if the chipsets are completely different.. course i would still recommend a wipe and reinstall...
xp isn't as good.. but it better then 9x....

Re: p5b deluxe dead?
i will do it when I get my 8800gts back, if it crashes too much I'll do a complete wipe. I'm not a fan of upgrading hardware on top of old crap, but right now I don't care too much.

Re: p5b deluxe dead?
i do the same.. i don't bother doing something like a refreshed install... when i know i'm just going to be changing it right away unless i can't even use the machine at it's basic level.
