Scan i7 system (DH prize)

Hey guys, look what arrived this weekend! Here's some pictures and first impressions of this beast...

The case is amazing and very unique, it looks like i'm stashing a nuclear device under my desk! It has a very 'custom' feel to it, looking like its been hand made by sci-fi prop designer out of plexi glass, spray paint and LEDs. The internal layout works very well, basically taking an ATX case and bolting the psu and hard drives to either side to form an X.

Scan have done an excellent job with the quality of the build, with all cables being meticulously tidied away inside. As i booted up the machine i was greeted with a load of jpegs on the desktop, which turned out to be screenshots of benchmarks and stress tests that have been run on it - impressive stuff. Everything was nicely configured from the start, within minutes of hitting the power button I was roaming jungles in FarCry 2, which was included in the bundle.

Which brings me to performance. Ouch this thing is lightning fast! I couldnt help but smile seeing an experience index score of 5.9 for the first time! Thinking what the hell, I ran farcry at 1920x1200 DX10 Ultra high detail, 4x AA 16xAF. It breezed through the task, with average frame rates in the 50's and graphics that blew me away. This is before I've done any tweaking or overclocking, think I'm going to have a lot of fun with this thing! I've run a couple of loops of 3dmark06 and Vantage, getting average scores of 16200 and 114100 respectively.

The i7 is a fantastic chip, I'm having trouble making it break a sweat in anything other than benchmarks! Photoshop filters that made my old system creak apply instantly. With six gigs of ram and eight threads its a multitasker's dream, no matter what i have running it just flies. I'm thinking I need to get into 3d rendering and video encoding to do this thing justice!

I can't thank the guys at DH/Intel/Scan enough for this incredible prize! You've made me one happy guy! Check back for benchmarks and my overclocking experiences..

Then ur ready to rock an Roll.

Cooling in that case looks interesting - if not optimum, looks like you could have a lot of creative options!
