Re: 9800gtx+ or 4850 (sorry if this sounds the same as others)
Here is a recent review on DH on the 4850 sonic by Platia compared to a 9800gt sonic but am not sure about the 9800gtx+

Re: 9800gtx+ or 4850 (sorry if this sounds the same as others)
From every thing I've read, as far as performance is concerned those two cards are pretty much equal, so ,trying to make a decision on performance isn't going to help.
You are going to have to look at other things. One thing I noticed in your post is: "i wont be running sli anytime soon ". If you re thinking of running SLI at some future date, than I'd go with the 9800. If not, then the 4850 seems to be a better card because of other features, coupled with the fact that it's less costly. Mostly, I think it depends on what you are using your system for.

Re: 9800gtx+ or 4850 (sorry if this sounds the same as others)
Most reviews I've read, and from what I've experienced, both cards are on par with each other. Sometimes one card will perform better, sometimes the other way around, but neither perform way better when they do. Both cards are that close in performance. However, that said, the majority of times the 9800GTX+ is ahead by a narrow margin.
Personally, I'd go for the Zotac 9800GTX+ for 3 reasons: 1) the tests I referred to early were with default clocked 9800GTX+ cards (738mhz), this is an overclocked card (750mhz), so the scores for those test would have been higher if done with this card, 2) the cooler ejects the hot air out of the back of the case (I've sold that Palit card before, and while it is a Zalman cooler, and it does keep the GPU nice and cool, it can heat up things around it, like the backpanel of the case, the areas of the video cards board around the cooler, and the motherboard below it), and 3) PhysX support (this is really a personal preference though). |

good choice since you have an SLi set up and might want to make use of it in the future

Re: 9800gtx+ or 4850 (sorry if this sounds the same as others)
it depends on what games you play mostly as well. One performs better than the other depending on the game.
Otherwise their rather close and you'd be happy with either one. |

Re: 9800gtx+ or 4850 (sorry if this sounds the same as others)
really.... you are set with either....
if you like Nvidia PhysX, get the 9800GTX+ but it uses a bit of power.... the HD 4850 uses less power, and is smaller, but has no physX capability it all goes down to the games you play.

Re: 9800gtx+ or 4850 (sorry if this sounds the same as others)
hi guys i have my zotac card and it is 10.5" of pure awesomeness it just eats all the games i play with everything maxed out (besides crysis) but i can run that at 1440*900 everything very high with 4* aa with a respectable 35-40 fps, i also just upgraded 2 a quad core so that helped 2!

Cool stuff man enjoy
![]() I have been following along and a nice choice. Just out of curiosity what are your load and idle temps like? Seems to me I read that the + used some of the cooler GPU core technology that went into the 9600GT. (Although I could be wrong)

Re: 9800gtx+ or 4850 (sorry if this sounds the same as others)
temps are really good about 52 C idle and 65-70 C load then about 3-4 C more if i overclock a bit and if i manually controll the fan and put it up to 100% (although its noisy then) i get 40-42 C idle and 50-55 C load but its too noisy
