Re: Ram help

the lower each number is.. the faster the ram will be able to perform...

However please be aware that while 2gb of super fast 6-6-6-18 is actually slower overall t hen 4gb of 8-8-8-24

Re: Ram help

It sounds like the best choice but if you include the manufacturers and model numbers of the RAM we might be able to help more.

There are many different grades of RAM and the best can not always be chosen based on recommended timings.

i wouldn't call it being "slower" when you have faster ram but in a smaller amount.

The "slower" part comes into play when you start using many different applications that begin to use up resources like no other, like games for example. Once your physical memory is used up, then you system starts accessing virtual memory, or page file as it's also known. thus, having more memory will greatly diminish this possibility and keep your machine running "faster"

Re: Ram help

Glad you posted the Geil RAM is of a completely different quality than the other brand. Both the Geil sets have heatspreaders and I would chose one of them myself.

I am off to work and don't have time to compare the 2 sets perhaps someone else can ... if not I will post back after work

Re: Ram help

MacDaddy, in the specifications they say the major RAM has heatspreaders as well, the image is wrong.

If I were you gamerguy, I'd go for the Geil. I never heard about Major before, and Geil is a good brand. You can take 2 gigs and upgrade to 4 later.

Re: Ram help

The "Ultra" 7-7-7 is faster than the 8-8-8. The 8-8-8 has 6.5 pounds shipping. The 7-7-7 is about 8 pounds more expensive but has free shipping (I assume because it says FREE P&P). So I'd go for the Ultra's. Good luck!

Thanks for the info man I didn't have time to check that this morning before work. I have never heard of that brand either BTW.

Re: Ram help

dude, where are you located?

i'm sure you can find better products elsewhere online rather than through eGay. i personally wouldn't buy something from there if i could help it.
