620HX or 520HX?
I'm puttiing together the following system for a friend of mine:
COOLER MASTER Centurion 590 ASRock AOD790GX Phenom II X4 940 8GB Corsair DDR2 1066 (PC2 8500) SAPPHIRE 4870 512MB Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 750GB 2 older IDE HDDS Sony DVD Burner (SATA) 4 additional 120mm fans I'm using a 620HX for the system in my specs, and I'm leaning towards it for the above system as well. However, if I can save him a few $$ by going with the 520HX that would be good. Could/would a 520HX be adaquate to power this new build, or should I 'play it safe' and go with the 620HX?

Re: 620HX or 520HX?
I think the HX520 would run that system quite well.
![]() Don't overreact with those Watts, but if you want to try Crossfire in the future or so, I would get the HX620. |

Re: 620HX or 520HX?
Seconded, I think that the hX520 should push enough juice. But that's all. None of that X-fire business unless you go for the bigger one.

Re: 620HX or 520HX?
The 520 is more than enough even if you plan on dropping a crossfire 4870x2 setup into that rig. You'd be surprised at just how little the PSU is pushed even while running a load as unrealistic as linpack or furmark.

Re: 620HX or 520HX?
I have a 520HX here and would go for the 620HX on that system just to be safe.

Re: 620HX or 520HX?
A 450VX (or 450HX where available) would also be more than adequate, so the 520 gives him a lot of headroom. These Corsairs and other PSU's of equal quality really deliver on their specs in contrast to many low budget brands.

Quote:
Shucks, the 520HX is probably equal to, or better than a lot of 550W and 600W PSUs out thereI have 2 620HX's, and put a 400CX in #2 son's emachines when I added an X1950 Pro to it. This guy won't be OCing, or running Crossfire, so I think I should be good with the 520HX. Even that should be more than enough. It's just that I'm wanting to be a bit more careful as it's for someone else, and I don't want to put together something that could have problems.
