Say goodbuy to DLP television
I noticed new egg isnt going to carry DLP anymore. I was at Best buy today and they said they are getting rid of them and they wont sell them any more. The salesman said they will do what every it takes to make the DLP market disappear. He said he hates them because no one believe you have to replace the bulb after a few years.

Re: Say goodbuy to DLP television
who cares about replacing the bulb every few years? what an idiot. what does he thibk y ohave t odo with front projection(wich is where u get your best & largest iq) typical best buy cluelessness.
i absolutely love my 65" mits dlp 7 have np whatsoever with having to fork out a $100-$150 every 2-3 years. what he thinks lcd & plasma dont degrade over time? except whne they do the only thing you can do is replace the whole friggin set. & try & find a an lscd, plasma, whatever that is over 55", gives you the same iq for anywhere near the same price lol. to be clear i am not talking about you, just peeps selling stuff & tallking crap when they dont know shit. not saying it aint happening either & if it is, poor choice for consumers.

Re: Say goodbuy to DLP television
Samsung made a LED backlight DLP HDTV. I think it was last year or the year before. No bulb to replace so the argument of the salesman is void.
Seriously, he's a salesman, he should be happy to be able to force his customers to come back every few years to buy bulbs from him. But blown503, I believe you. One year ago, I was interested about the samsung DLP models. The first thing the salesman told me was that it was a technology of the past. I had to insist to get him to look in his price list and give me a price (they did not have any DLP models on the floor). Maybe they work on a commission basis and they get paid more by the models that are not DLP. |

Re: Say goodbuy to DLP television
yes.. but not nearly as often.. and they are far more durable and able to widthstand harsher conditions.
This will soon make typical LCDs obsolete as the true alternative is an LED backlit LCD tv... 1/3 the width, over twice the weight (mind you) and about 10 times the estimated lifespan. I thought 10,000 hours was pretty good already, 100,000 seems pretty rediculious... 11 years if it were left on all day all night.. nonstop.... And to boot, oventually LCD backlights will have dropped to an insanely low price vs the bulbs. Other things go wrong with DLP then just a bulb issue.

Re: Say goodbuy to DLP television
the thing i don't like about DLPs is the lack of a viewing angle. like, in order to see everything perfectly, you need to pretty much be directly in front of the display. otherwise, they do give an excellent image.

Re: Say goodbuy to DLP television
judas i have had my set for 2 years. np period. neither has my bro or either of the 2 other people i know that hvae a dlp set. i am pretty tight with the only real hi fi store in town & they say that over the alst 2 years complaints for plasma/lcd far outstrip those for dlp. quit voicing your opinions as fact.
cddb, while what u say is basically true, dlp has really done a lot to improve that over the last 2 years. most of the neg things you hear about dlp are either old & been fixed or just wrong. not saying it doesnt have cons, but so does lcd & especially plasma. pick your poison & go with it

with that said, i chose my LCD TV. the main reason why though, is pretty much because of the ability to have it neatly wall mounted. i still <3 mine, and i always will...until the day it goes out on me that is, lol. |

Fair enough... but your making the suggestion that i don't have my own sources as well... I do have facts.... Not only do i have a few ties to some people that work is relatively large places such as Futureshop (collandor excluded...) but also london drugs, visions, and a few other places to name a few.... i've requested return/failure/problem figures on a number of different models as well as specific types of equipment. Shit i SELL this stuff. 2 years isn't a problem..... but the average is about 3-5 years for a DLP if it's taken care of well.... In some specific cases however, provided it depends on the manufacturer and the model.. you can get more obviously... but it's a rarity.. kinda like a laptop from dell or compaq or hp lasting more then 5 years.... it's just not that common. I know a number of things that usually fail on DLP.... this is without mentioning the bulb.... which is just typical. No different then projectors in that sense. I've a friend here in town that has a DLP... it's been beaten to hell and it's still working, mind you with a few issues that won't be resolved without spending more then it's worth. A few others have some.... even hi-def expensive models... obviously dollars doesn't always mean you get quality... So rather then strickly being biased based on my own opinion, i do indeed have some back up facts stashed away... Not to mention that one of the FIRST businesses in the province that works on any electronic you can think of to fix... but is Considerably large and has a number of high end professionals that i can call up on whim and talk to them about anything and get a definite straight answer. They KNOW precisely what goes...... Plasma is the worse in terms of all 3 techs.... DLP next... and then LCD..... Standard Tube TVs still have the highest rating in terms of longevity and durability...
