??? Problem wih WD 10,000 rpm drive.

Problem wih WD 10,000 rpm drive.

Please help.!

Why my drive which is 300-GB 10,000 rpm drive by WD Company
is showing up as a 2 terabite drive ???

Its showing up in the MANAGE properties in windows as a RAW drive 2014.24-BG drive.
When in fact its a 300-GB drive.
Its retarded.

Ive been at this for 3 days, and I am getting really upset.

Is there something im doing wrong.

I am using Vista Ultimate x64 SP-1

I am up all night, need answers.

thank you.

RAW would mean that it is lacking a proper file system. Was there data on this disk previously? or did you just install it?

If you just installed it, go back into manage and format the disk NTFS and see what it says after that.

it would be pretty kick ass if WD accidently shipped out a concept/unreleased model and you ended up with it...

As Chaos pointed out RAW would suggest that the disk is unformatted

Re: Problem wih WD 10,000 rpm drive.

I'm not sure if anyone has noticed it yet, but since you are using Vista you may need to first initialize the disk, then format it.

If you haven't done this, go to Control Panel | Administrator Tools (Classic Panel) or System Maintenance then Administrator Tools (Control Home) | Computer Management | Disk Management (a shortcut would be to hit the Windows key + R to bring up the run command window, type in diskmgmt.msc, and hit ok). Once there you will see all your attached drives at the bottom. To initialize the drive right click on the boxes on the left that say Disk X. So, if your new drive is Disk 1, right click on it, then choose "Initialize", and follow the necessary steps. Once that's done, you should be able to right-click the right hand box for the drive itself, and choose to create a partition, or rather make a simple volume and format it. This is only necessary if the drive has never been formated before.

Re: Problem wih WD 10,000 rpm drive.

@Tipstaff, did all that of the info in your post letter by letter. Now its still showing up as 2 partitions and saying that each partition is 980mb+. I formated and everything. wipes the drive completely clean. also, when I use Partition Magic v8 or v9, when I try to duplicate my C drive and put the copy into the WD VelociRaptor (new) drive. I get an error message saying "I/O error on the WD VelociRaptor 10,000 rpm drive." I am using Vista x64 bit Ultimate SP1. - I think im gonna just (RMA) the drive back and get a new one. This oneis kicking my butt. Also, would be cool if I did have a Proto-Type drive from WD by mistake. would be funny as hell.
