Re: Flashing BIOS
meeeeh... i see all you guys have already covered everything... but heck, might as well give my thoughts on the subject... lol
![]() before you do any flashing, make sure all settings in the BIOS are set to default... if not, the flashing might not be done correctly, which in the end would make the mother board useless... first, be absolutely sure that the BIOS update file is intended for your brand and model of the motherboard, and i do mean ABSOLUTELY SURE... cuz the first time i ever flashed a BIOS, i almost got the version of the mother board wrong, and the results could have been devastating... and why does your BIOS file has a .170 extension... i thought all BIOS files had .BIN extensions...? secondly, you would have to get the BIOS flash utility from your manufacturers site (which i see you have already done, which is great )...boot up in DOS... any of the mentioned ways above is fine, as long you don't boot up cmd in windows... just make sure the new BIOS file is in some location you could gain access to while in DOS... ![]() run the flash utility and follow the instructions... when prompted, write the location of the new BIOS file and hope that the process is uninterrupted, cuz if some sort of a power drain occurs during the process, the process will be halted and the motherboad could end up in the trash (i.e. useless)... there are ways to bring the "damaged" motehrboard back to a working state, but it involves removing the BIOS chip off the motherboard, flashing it using some sort of an EPROM programming utility (with the aproprite EPROM hardware of course), loading the new BIOS and putting the BIOS chip back in the mother board... but as far as know, many motherboards these days don't have that kind of option (the BIOS chips are embeded on to the motherboard), so i wouldn't count on that option... well, that's about all i can think of at the moment... if anything else pops up to mind, i'll write...

Re: Flashing BIOS
yeah, i wouldn't change it either... although if it's a hex or a binary file, it really doesn't matter which extension the file has... the data is loaded regardless of the extension...
it was just kinda weird though... .170 extension... where did they come up with that LOL ... maybe the version number of the BIOS...?
