Capturing Video..
I have a friend that I just built a new system for, and he wants to capture video from a Sony 8mm camcorder.
System is a PHII 940 on an ASRock AOD790GX MB with 8GB RAM. However, he's currently just using the onboard video. He really doesn't do a lot of gaming, so the onboard is good enough for what he's been doing. What does he need to be able to get video from camcorder to his system? IF it's going to be a video card, which ATI card would be a good one to get? Don't bother to recommend an nVidea card, unless you want a thread with your name in it started in the FWZ

Re: Capturing Video..
if the camcorder has a USB or a FireWire interface, then no other hardware than a USb or a FireWire port is needed... but if there is no such interface, then some sort of a USB video capture device would be the solution (if your freind is not keen on bying a graphic card with video capture capabilities)...
here are some links i found googling around for USB video capuring devices: USB Video Capture Gadget - Only 32.99! - UK Sabrent USB 2.0 VideoAudio Capture DVD Maker Adapter - USB 2.0, MPEG Encoder, Plug-n-Play, Vista Ready USB-AVCPT at TigerDirect.com other than that, i wouldn't recommend you any graphic card, since i'm and nVidia fan... (sorry, nothing personal )

Re: Capturing Video..
It would help a lot if we knew the camera in question and its outputs available.
If it doesn't have any, then it would require an expensive solution to take the media to digitise it.

Re: Capturing Video..
It's an older Sony 8mm. Just has the AV out jacks. One for audio and one for video.

Re: Capturing Video..
Then a USB solution might be enough, but I have never used one to suggest one.
