Re: Do you trust computer repair people??

true about the google search
if i don't know how to fix a problem, i usually google the EXACT situation (either the exact error msg, or a description of the hardware and its issues)
works every time

Re: Do you trust computer repair people??

Actually, this negative perception is the reason I'm grateful now not to have to run my own business anymore.

The problem is, an honest person trying to compete against a dishonest one can't - the cost of doing business is so much lower for the dishonest one - and if the honest one's resources are thin because of the unfair competition over time, any confrontation could result in a lawsuit (simply the process alone...) that saps the last of the honest one's resources beyond recovery regardless of outcome. The only way for the honest one to survive is to be watchful for the sake of the customers (it's absolutely in their best interest!), catch the problem early, and act with wisdom.

If you don't know that, or aren't somewhat proactive about it going in, the first learning experience can kill the business - sometimes there's no second chance - and the customer base suffers even more...

And the above doesn't even take into account the possible damage to the honest one's passion for his/her customers, the equipment, and the business.
