its a typist's heaven. I average about 110wpm on it, which for me is pretty good. (in my late teens early 20's when I was trained I averaged about 120-130 so I have slowed up a little). |

Re: My new mouse
The keys on the 7G are excellent and as you know ive been singing its praises for years. The keys on the DAS however are even more pronounced, so you get a very audible click just as the key actuates with a little further play after it. It brings back so many memories for me when people actually made good keyboards. There is so much rubbish out there now that I find it extremely difficult to get a great typing board. On some of the boards ive been forced to use recently I have been making so many errors, actually thinking I was getting older and perhaps losing my dexterity a little. This has reinvigorated my typing again. I am actually thinking of ordering another DAS for a backup.
I also prefer the layout because there are two windows keys on it, either side of the spacebar and as I use a macintosh and a PC via a belkin switch (with the Steelseries Ikari Laser, Samsung 30 inch XL30 and Mako speakers) the windows key translates to the Mac command key. Having just one on the steelseries to the right of the spacebar is useless so I had to ditch it. if you like the style of the 7g im positive you will like this even more as it is superior in every way (also even more expensive which is hard to believe!) |

Re: My new mouse
Interesting. I've been using a 7G for about a year and didn't think a better keyboard was actually possible.
I also use it on a Mac, but I use the alt key as command (as that is the position of the command key on an apple keyboard), so it doesn't both me at all. I would buy the Das if I had a need for another $170 keyboard, and I have my doubts that selling my 7G for a recent price would be easy.

As for remaping keys, in my specific instance that isn't ideal, I use a wireless mac bluetooth keyboard as well in some instances and it plays havoc with the regular button layout. Always annoyed me that the 7G didnt have a mirrored/parallel layout, I can appreciate that gamers might hit the windows key on the left during gaming but it always annoys me when they change the standardised layout. |

I am massively fussy about keyboards though, you really can't beat the old IBM style boards for typing, its what I was brought up on. |

Re: My new mouse
Well see the old IBM keyboards are what I used in college they were built like tanks and I liked them as well. If the Das keyboard is similar but with new technology I might check the local shops to see if I can try one.

Re: My new mouse
I was browsing the Gigabyte website the other day and I noticed they also have a mechanical keyboard coming out. Even has macro keys for people who use them.
GIGABYTE - Product - PC Peripherals - Keyboard - Products - GK-K8000 AHHH, just noticed the Das doesn't have media keys. That rules it out right there, I couldn't live without them on the 7g.

Re: My new mouse
It is just a pure typists board. Im surprised you use the media keys on the 7g tbh, I hate the way they are implemented with secondary keys. I actually missed the logitech G15 for the volume and media keys when I moved to the 7G though !

Re: My new mouse
Media keys really aren't important for my main keyboard the Elixir has them I could use it strictly for gaming until I can afford a better gaming keyboard like the 7g.
I have 3 machines running here 2 on a KVM switch and I use 2 sets of keyboards and mice.

Re: My new mouse
Guys, my mouse has arrived!!!
My impressions taking it out of the box was, wow, this thing looks so cool: simple and black. When I held it in my hands I was surprised with the weight, it's remarkably lighter than my mx518. I prefer a heavier mouse, but once I was using it, I didn't notice a real difference with the mx518, except for how smooth the tracking is on this mouse. Really nice, and I haven't even installed the drivers yet. ![]() Compared to the mx518, the scroll wheel is also a big step forward, and ergomically, this is a different world. I hold the mx518 with the back of my palm and fingetips, but the ikari just fits like a glove. The mouse button clicking noise is also less prominent, which is good in my opinion. I takes some time to get used, switching from the mx518, but so far so good. I'd like to thank DH for the review and Mac for the feedback, both helped me to make the right descision and buy this awesome mouse. I'm a happy man. ![]() edit: when I move it very slowly on low CPI I sometimes get minor tracking problems, but that's probably my mousepad: Razer Goliathus. I think this mouse needs a smoother surface, am I right? Last edited by lepel; May 10, 2009 at 08:50 PM. |

![]() On the tracking issue and not sure if I posted back but I found the source of my issue using this with the KVM switch. It wasn't the mouse it was the settings in BIOS for USB. Since this mouse has a selectable DPI I would suggest setting the USB speed to normal as opposed to high using this mouse. The mouse is optical and the surface it is on shouldn't affect tracking (I don't think).

Re: My new mouse
My thoughts exactly. With every other mouse I've used I 'palmed' it. But with the Ikari because it is so comfortable I actually put my entire hand on the mouse.

Re: My new mouse
Thanks, but I'm not using a kvm switch, but I think I found the issue. I had it plugged into the front usb ports of my p182 case, and for some reason they're not very deep: there's always a small part of the usb sticking out. Don't know if this is a common issue with these cases, but it's the first time it degraded functionality of anything I have plugged in there. Anyway, I plugged it directly into my motherboard's I/O, so now everythink works flawlessly.
Time to put this mouse to the test, I say. COD4, here I come.

And regarding the Das keyboard, do the keys pop off easily like the 7G? It is suppose to be a feature, but I often hit the arrow keys, delete, win key, alt, etc too fast and the key goes shooting 6 inches in the air ![]() Starting to annoy me.

Re: My new mouse
I read reviews about it, and it's a very good product too, but apparently it has lift off issues. I find it uglier than the laser version because it has a grey glossy cover instead of the black matte (main reason I picked the laser over the optical ^^).

Re: My new mouse
well we will know soon cause i just ordered it. it was $20 cheaper than the laser, & while that is the mouse i wanted i had a budget i had to work with & if i got the laser i would not have been able to order win home server
![]() i usually set my mouse to one setting & forget about it. while perf is of course a top prioity, so is comfort & durability(ther have been some peeps with complaints out there about the cord on both mice.hopefully that has been ironed out). & the optical offers everythin gthe laser does in those dept. anyway thx for the info guys. still saving for that 7g

Re: My new mouse
well i got the ikari optical. and wtf! it is advertised as a gaming mouse but there is no way to chnge the function of the left hand keys from the standars setting - forward/back. & the is no way to assign anything to the wheel. meaning no dblclick or anytghiong else. the wheel does not function as a button- scrolling only.
ergonomics are great as is the perf so far, but how can u call a mouse a gaming devise if there is no customising of the buttons & you lose a button with the wheel?

Re: My new mouse
You should have looked at reviews and features more closely. This was one of the drawbacks of the optical (and probably one of the reasons it is cheaper).

they basically say what the laser can do then talk about how the optical is more suited for fps. but i probably should have read more reviews more closely. the 2 i skimmed thru didnt seem to have that particular bit of info. plus u really arent(at least me) looking for those type of issues in someting that is touted as a 'gaming mouse' the lack of middle button is what really stunned me. havent had a 2 button mouse in over 10 years. hopefully newegg wiil let me trade up. just dont know were ill get the $$ as i used the rest of my budgetfor the next month or 2 on ms home server.
