need advice on new system
ok, so i'm looking to buy a new pc. i'd rather buy than build this time. i haven't bought a new pc in a long time (2005 was my last pc, and i built it), so i need some advice.
i'm looking for the fastest pc i can get. the more cores the better. i would like for it to hold quite a bit of RAM - like over 10 GB (for future) would like at least a bluray drive, if not burner. 1 TB hard drive and a really nice video card - i need some help here. all for somewhere around $2,000 or so. thanks in advance |

Re: need advice on new system
$2,000 American I presume?
There's alot of choice nowadays, but if you're wanting cores go with i7. Then you'll need to get yourself an X58 motherboard, and DDR3 RAM. i think most mobos allow you a max of 12GB ram, which sounds like what you need. take a look here for a roundup of X58 motherboards. The high end graphics cards are the nvidia GTX285 and GTX295. ATi has the 4890 and 4870X2. At the moment, the fastest (and most expensive) card is the nvidia GTX295. Will you be watercooling or just air? If air, i'd suggest going for either the CoolerMaster HAF932 or the Antec 1200. PSU should be anywhere up from 750W I would also suggest to get a ~80GB WD raptor for OS - apparently its noticeably snappier

Re: need advice on new system
I'm not located in America, but I remember a thread posted on DH somewhere with a list of companies...hit up the thread search tool and try List of sellers. I'll have another look and see if i can get it for you.
Also - the information i gave you was if you were looking at configuring your own but having the seller build it for you. Just if you wanted a more personalised approach. Otherwise you can buy pre made of course. **EDIT: Just found the thread..looked right over it first time :\ You'll have to look around though, seems to be no shortage of companies in USA ![]() try www.cyberpowerpc.com and www.ibuypower.com they look good.

Re: need advice on new system
uhh, if you wanted to spend $2000 spending half your budget on a CPU is an awful idea. An i7 920 is a much better choice.

Re: need advice on new system
either a I7 920 or a AMD Phenom II 940 or 955
try and get 2x4gb modules if possible for dual channel... or 3x2gb modules for triple channel
