Oh yeah, I got that, I was just mentioning it in case someone was looking for low-energy drives in particular, but didn't want to go with the WD Green ones.

What the crap are you driving? With gas at $1/L, it would cost me around $40 to drive my truck from Lucky Lake to Saskatoon and back.

Re: Getting a new Hard Drive

a 160km (320km) round trip?

What you think it's a straight line with no stops or turns?

Running a vehicle with 28Miles to the gallon, the round trip costs roughly $80 give or take. Even with the POS 2.1L 4 cylinder sucker able to manage a steady 32+ miles to the gallon cost 50 bucks round trip. To bad that car doesn't last long at all on the roads here typically...

And i'm not even factoring wear on the engine, oil, tires, etc.

I'm sold on the WD Black 1TB drives. They are very massive, very quick, and don't bog down when trying to do a few things at once. There are deals on them all the time for $99 (BB, Microcenter, Newegg)

320 km = 200 miles

200 miles/28 miles per gallon = 7.14 gallons

7.14 gallons = 27 litres

That's about $22 at current gas prices in Saskatchewan.

Are you buying $60 worth of snacks per trip?

Re: Getting a new Hard Drive

no

but obviously i'm not getting 28 miles or 32 miles to the gallon.... those are absurd numbers.... they are the best you can get without slowing down or stopping or sitting at a traffic light and speeding up...

btw.. your gallons are wrong.. those are american gallons.. not the gallons we use here..

so across the board, the trip to the city.. internal city driving... etc...... it works out to lets say 250 miles worth of traveling.... 150 of those are actually spent getting the peak fuel efficiency of lets say 32 miles to the gallon.. and the last 100 miles are at lets say 12 miles to the gallon

so:

150 miles/32 miles per gallon = 4.69 gallons
100 miles/12 miles per gallon = 8.33 gallons

4.69+8.33=13.02 gallons round trip

13.02 x 4.55 (Imperial Gallon to Liters) = 59.24 Liters

59.24 liters @ $1/L = about $59.24 just in fuel alone.

That completely destroys your $22 figure even if the additional 50 miles was added...

BTW, Enjoy your 1tb drive dipstick

1 TB for $99... The one I ordered was $15 cheaper than that, with no shipping or tax. You should do a little more shopping next time

And guys, is this really the right place to talk about inefficient private transportation methods?

Re: Getting a new Hard Drive

Judas, even at $80 per trip, it's less money than you save just from buying 1 hard drive (per prices given by you). So if you buy more than one thing per trip, then you gain money, lots.

1. We don't actually use gallons at all here.
2. I used the same type of gallons throughout my calculations (US liquid gallons, the type used in MPG measurements), so it's pretty irrelavent which type of gallons I used.

Fine, let's do the calculation again.

Using the fuel economy from the US government site, for the least fuel efficient truck, the 8 cylinder Nissan Titan. The site uses US liquid gallons.

Nissan Titan gets 17 mpg highway, 12 mpg city.

150 miles/17 mpg = 8.8 gallons
100 miles/12 mpg = 8.3 gallons
Total = 17.1 gallons

17.1 US liquid gallons = 65 litres.

Comes out to $60 if you buy the most expensive gasoline in Saskatchewan.

If you're driving an reasonable car, you easily half your gas costs.

So $80 is a ridiculous figure.

Sorry for the ridiculous offtopicness RealityRipple, I'm done here, I've more than made my point.

Um, i've already said i already make those trips at about $80 bucks round trip....

If i were to drive to other locations such as warehouses outside saskatchewan.. lets say calgary (likely poor) or even to where the locations are for lets say ncix, the $80 would jump to about 200+ instantly and over 500 round trip for ncix.

As i said, i make the $80 round trips already .. provided i'm picking up a number of things in one shot

Zelig, your point is made, but it's still using paper figures, and not real ones.. i'm still paying 99cents at the pump for my fuel even today, and that's the cheapest around, i don't have a choice aside from not driving at all period. It's not like i can go "wtf, i ain't paying that for gas" and then try and find another place 20-50-100 km away. And lastly, Canada never has used US gallons, and in saskatchewan, Gallons is still a used figure, we don't work off liters at all really for most of the stuff we've got, just like we don't use Metric tools for majority of the jobs. So your point that canada hasn't used gallons for years is as invalid as we haven't used metric tools for years. We still pick up 5 gallon (IMPERIAL NOT US) of oil and so forth... we buy things out here by the gallons, not liters. PS: I've a car that gets under 1 gallon to the mile accelerating.... point?
