Re: I am freaking out here
I've tried repairing several USB flash drives that have been damaged hanging off the side or back of a laptop and something gets put down on them or the edge of the laptop is lifted the WRONG way - crack!!! And, of course, it's the place where the important current stuff (from today and just last week...) is, and the computer was on when it happened...
My success rate performing microsurgery on those is only 50% - quite terrible really. Careful! Whew - glad your hard drive didn't go away BlueMak!

Re: I am freaking out here
If the needle that reads the data is out of line with the platters, is there any way to recover the data?
I have a HDD here that used to be external, I've removed the casing. Anyway, when firing it up it has this ticking sound and the computer doesn't see it. probably because the drive doesn't really start, but it just keeps on ticking. Like the needle has to get into position but is somehow stuck and it keeps trying.. It could be something else, but does anybody know what could be wrong here and how to fix it?
