Well... Sh*t!!!

i have had the same system for some time now...and i have been threatening/working on rebuild. first i started by getting an xfx 9600gt. not too bad, but it wasn't enough. i knew my cpu was the bottleneck. so i made plans on upgrading the processor. but all the striker "extreme" motherboard would handle was the Q6700 or QX6850(still $1,000) i had settled on a Q6600. (stupid 680i chipset limitations)my girlfriend finally made good on her offer and purchased me a video card...hehe i got her to buy me a BFG GTX285. it kicked ass for a couple weeks. (however working out of town cramped my playing ) but i noticed that my cpu was CERTAINLY my bottleneck. i get ready to purchase a q6600 from "THA EGG" turn on computer and............................................... .............................................yea that's what i thought too. it never made it to post.
luckily i purchased the 1 year trade in plan from local 'puter shop. "sorry dude we don't have that anymore........but i can give u the striker II. i was all excited...i thought i was gonna have to build a totally new system. i made the mistake and didn't ask the specific model of the striker which i was receiving. i looked at the cpu support list and decided after much deliberation to get a Q9550. price/performance it looked the best. i also picked up (2)-2 GB DDR3 (1333mhz)sticks because the striker extreme and it's 790i chipset only supports DDR3. and what the hay, when i finally decide to go to i7 down the road i'll have supported ram. feeling good about myself i sent in the order to newegg and made tracks to said 'puter establishment. he proceeds to hand me a box containing a FORMULA series STIKER II. (OH SH*T!!!!) i hope i'm not too late to stop my newegg order. the formula only supports up to DDR2 (1066 mhz).
I hightail it out of the parking facilitations of aforementioned 'puter purveyors. make it home just in the nick of time to find that i was exactly 40 mins too late. my order already packed and on it's way. so...um thanks new egg??? i have my much needed processor en route...but i'm also gonna have some pretty DDR3 paperweights sitting on my desk.
oh...hehe i also picked up another GTX285 from the store. bwahahaha! my first attempt with SLI. it better not suck! i know there are a lot of haters out there thinking "y didn't you just get the i7 nuke??!!!? simple....free motherboard, and i spent all my dough on videocards and a new power supply.

First of all, I hope you have Vista 64, or else 4GB of RAM + 2 285s will make me laugh.

So I guess the mainboard can't run the DDR3 ram at lower speeds? If you have already bought so many things, do the right thing, buy a new mainboard and sell this new one that you don't want.

I have to agree with Bluemak on the mainboard buy what you want the first time. On the DDR3 I have 4G sitting here right now it will be used again

Re: Well... Sh*t!!!

i am running vistax64. but i didn't have to pay for this motherboard. it's leaps and bounds better than the one i bought last year.i'm fine with the older processors for the time being. perhaps next year i'll move to i7. i took the money i saved from buying a motherboard and bought video card for sli.

Re: Well... Sh*t!!!

Cool on X64 and the board kinda sounds like the mobo on my AMD system. It's older and doesn't support anything from 7750 and up but it was a freebie from my buddy

(I am looking for something newer with an AMD chipset and Phenom support for that system eventually)

Re: Well... Sh*t!!!

I read some bad things about the Striker when it first came out, Even pre-release a lot of hardware blogs i found through google were questioning the fact they went with an nForce chipset.

Sure SLi was the best choice for multi-GPU configurations around then but times haven't changed when it comes to OC'ing the CPU (Which you'd really expect the very best from an ENTHUSIAST-plastered board) since compared to some of the later Intel chipsets around that time, 975x if i'm not mistaken, absolutely pwned nForce in OC'ing.

So sorry if this is a retarded question but are you all sorted now? And please for the love of god use your enter key
