AHCI ONBOARD RAID Wont work with ADAPTEC 3405 SAS Card

Foxconn BlackOps - Quantum Force Motherboard

I've been pulling my hair out all fucking day because of this motherboard.... i upgraded and now regretting it.

My previous gigabyte P35 board allowed me to run both raids FINE! (same intel raid chipsets) so i stuck with very similar hardware upgrades..

When I dont have my adaptec card in, it loads up the onboard raid fine.. when its plugged in, it doesnt load up the raid during post fully..

WITH ADAPTEC RAID CARD INSERTED INTO ONE OF THE PCI-E SLOTS

WITHOUT ADAPTEC RAID CARD... HOW IT SHOULD SHOW UP

In windows, when everything is plugged in.. (my sas setup is my operating system), in device manager I get

INTEL(R) 80333 PCI EXPRESS-TO-PCI BRIDGE B - 0372 (code 12)

as device doesnt have enough resources to start.. and the intel matrix storage as Device could not start.

please.. i need help

what happens if you just use the Adaptec card with the onboard raid chip disabled?

And i'm assuming you've tried other PCIe slots?

sounds like a classic irq/dma conflict..

the same EXACT thing would happen with one of the MSI board i had where if you enabled the esata JMicron controller, the bloody Main Intel ich7R controller would produce the EXACT same thing.... disable it and all would be fine.... i never was able to resolve it without finding a bios that made the 2 controllers play nice.

Re: AHCI ONBOARD RAID Wont work with ADAPTEC 3405 SAS Card

thanks mega heaps for your replies guys and the research..... turns out i got the sucker working today.

at this point ive given up and just plugged one tb hdd in and use it as an IDE device for the time being whilst i find a solution.

in bios, ive set the sata ports to AHCI in IDE mode with turbo memory enabled...

loaded up windows and installed the driver for it by installing the intel matrix storage software + driver.... when i did it, BOOM, Found New Hardware 'Mirror1TB' (what i labelled my tb mirror) was detected and installed! The Intel Matrix software said 'oh noes where is the 2nd hdd?' so i shut it down, plugged in the 2nd sata cable, and now the RAID is being rebuilt...

conclusion:

what i think happened was, the intel software noticed that the 1tb drive is meant to be in a mirror, and the software has taken over the role of RAID'ing these terrabyte drives, and is now doing a software raid in real time. (correct me if im wrong with my assumption please, i'd love to know what happened lol)

overall, i couldnt give a fuck whether its software raid or hardware raid, as long as data is going to both drives at once, i couldn't care less.

everything is working hunky dory! loving life right now with the new rig :-)

i would recommend making sure things are raiding properly before getting to far along, i'd try this by unplugging the main raid drive and seeing if the machine continues to operate correctly and report correctly on a failed primary drive
