Steelseries 7G - how do you like it?

hey guys,

with my extremely positive experience with the Steelseries ikari laser and the SX hard pad, i am now looking into the 7G keyboard

im just wondering for those that own the Steelseries 7G, how do you like it? how has it held up in your day to day use and do you think its worth it?

im planning to get one soon as i get enough money. this tarantula's key life is coming to an end.... how is the key life for mechanical keys

thanks alot guys

Re: Steelseries 7G - how do you like it?

I've been using mine for about a year and still love it to this day. My only two issues are that the Shift keys aren't very smooth & that the keys can pop off very easily if you hit them on the corner quick and fast. Otherwise it is an absolute joy to type on.

hmm..... when you say pop off, do you mean that they get knocked off center? and does this appear damaging to the keyboard itself?

no. All the keys come off very easily for cleaning. They just come off to easily. If you hit some of the keys (some of the ones on the bottom row) quickly and off center, they have a tendency to fly off.

Re: Steelseries 7G - how do you like it?

I like the 7g a lot, prefer the DAS keyboard though, same style as the Steelseries just a better typing keyboard.

Re: Steelseries 7G - how do you like it?

hm.... ok good! sounds really like something i could keep for a long time!

the DAS seems to be more a typists keyboard compared to the 7G which is really built around gaming.... the 7G is also cheaper around here by a few dollars....

ok i guess im set on all i need to know, thanks guys!

Re: Steelseries 7G - how do you like it?

I think the logitech G series are better "gaming' boards tbh. with all the LCDs, lighted keyboards and additional functionality. The 7G is a very loosely based gaming keyboard with a focus on typing which is why I made this comment above.

Just my view on it, certainly was also the view of nathan, the guy who reviewed it for us.

Enjoy the 7g, hope you like it, great setup.

Re: Steelseries 7G - how do you like it?

7G ordered cant wait..... so i have the Ikari Laser, SX Aluminum Pad, and now the 7G.... does this mean im a Steelseries fanboy?

in terms of gaming, the LCDs are something i never had an opportunity to use, dont think id miss it.

like having a backlight but havent used one since i had the tarantula so im used to not having one... wouldve been nice though

tried using the macros on the tarantula, hated it, everytime i press one, it stops what im pressing on the keyboard, feels like something better suited for MMOs more than FPSs.... i dont play MMOs

another thing though is anti-ghosting, something i really need, the tarantula supports 7 simultaneous key presses.... while that is plenty good usually, i occasionally could use more, so if this things insane number of presses holds true then.... excellent...... especially since i put an additional "fire" key on the board to help with accuracy

last thing is key-life, and cleaning, eventually stuff gets under the keys when i play games, so easy cleaning is a must... just hope its not too easy. membrane keys tend to fail almost randomly as well... i have to slam the "M" every time i want to type it.... tried cleaning it, nothing.

gets annoying when im typing a paper to look back and find that there are no "M"s in the whole paper... great to hear that this thing will last

Re: Steelseries 7G - how do you like it?

I too am interested in the 7G. The DAS looks interesting as well. I have a couple questions about the 7G. At Provantage, there are two "variations" listed here. Does anyone see a difference? My other question has to do with dimensions. They're listed at around ~19 inches in width by ~10 inches in depth. I assume this is with the wristrest, but could anyone confirm. Thanks a ton!
